Re: Can I get a hillstream loach?
Q-tank sounds like it will work. Do you have some filter media you can share to add beneficial bacteria to this tank? It does not have to fit inside the filter, rubber band it near the intake if needed. Good water flow is important to the bacteria, too.

Re: Can I get a hillstream loach?
Diet sounds good, see what they eat and what they do not. If the small fish barely fits in the mouth of the larger, it might get stuck, killing both fish. Much safer to get a large enough fish that the larger won't even think about eating the smaller. There are quite a few barbs that do well in cool...

Re: Can I get a hillstream loach?
I think I would try it. Make sure the filters are set up to help each other. Aim the water flow in the same direction, not toward each other. That just causes turbulence which does not enhance the flow. Use the air bubbler to help out areas that may have poor water flow, perhaps behind or under some...

Re: Elephant skin rock
Vinegar can help. 1) Scratch the rock to expose fresh rock. 2) Pour on some vinegar. Other tests: Put the rock in some water that is similar to how you will be running the tank. Test GH, KH, pH and TDS. every few days for a couple of weeks. (say... 4 times over a 2 week period) If these values stay ...

Check the temperature tolerance of Cories. Not many will handle that warm a tank. I use Planet Catfish for Catfish information. Here is a link to the Sterba's Cory. You can use a feature next to the temperature to find other Cats in the same range. https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?sp...

Re: Are These Queen Loaches?
125 liters is pretty small for a fish that gets 5-6" long (13-15cm). Maybe keep the B. kubotai, but I would not have tried them in that size tank. A smaller Loach such as B. striata would be a better choice. They are a bit smaller, so half a dozen would work. Ambastaia sidthimunki would be a very ac...

Re: Pool Filter Sand
Here is a company that supplies dry, bagged sand to the local (California) masonry stores. I have no idea if they ship nationwide. Check your local masonry, rock yards, brick yards and so on for a similar product line. I have linked their 'specialty sand' page, which includes something they call Aqu...

Re: Foam bubbles on top of aquarium
The first thing I test for when I see bubbles that linger a little longer than they should is ammonia. Bubbles that form and pop right away should not be a problem. You could adjust the filter, power head, water level or something, then these bubbles would not form (or would be greatly reduced). But...

I prefer darker backgrounds. Makes the interior of the tank really stand out, and the background looks like the lake continues on back there, getting deeper. Fabric. I found a print many years ago that is back with green fern fronds scattered. You cannot tell they are fern fronds from the front of t...

Re: Pool Filter Sand
Davin, this is a web site/forum for people who keep aquariums.
Some people use pool filter sand in the aquarium.
This has nothing to do with how or why you use sand in a filter for a swimming pool.
However:
You might never need to change it, if you backflush it regularly to wash out the debris.

Re: Behaviour when new clown coach introduced
Clown (and other) Loaches can be quite inquisitive. I think your new ones are simply checking out this 'giant' new friend. Is the older Loach showing any indication that he (or she) is upset by the actions of the newcomers? Some Loaches are more territorial than others, or less patient with the pest...

Re: White lines/dry or cracked skin on clown loach
I have not heard of this reaction. However, some fish are much more sensitive to certain medications, and need careful dosing. Even within a species one individual may react in a different way. It sounds like the Ich episode is over, but here are a few tips. 1) When you buy new fish, put them in a s...
