Thank you, zmo63. Your aquarium looks great! Wish I could get java fern to grow like that. I think my water has something in that most plants don't like. I can grow a few Crypts and Anubias, and that's about all. I have a great light source, so that is why i think it is the water. I really like how ...

Some of my loaches (and others) eating shrimp.

Took this a few weeks ago and thought a few might enjoy seeing it.

It is a planted 75 gallon.

Thank you, Kate, for you very kind comments. The substrate is CaribSea Eco-Complete (160 pounds of it) and one 20 pound bag of CaribSea black sand. The Eco is suppose to be good for plants.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments and for your kind words about my pictures. Just a short note about skunk loaches. I know that there are later books and articles about them, but Braz Walker in his 1974 book on Sharks and Loaches; he says, "Although it is often described as completel...

intro and new tank

Just wanted to say hi and tell everyone a little about myself and my new tank. I am 66 years old. I kept fish for 15+ years back in the 60s and 70s. This one is first I have had in 30 years. I have always liked loaches and now I have my own loach tank. It is a planted 75 gallon with Eco Complete. I ...

Dealing with Ich -- question about

Have a question about the use of salt. One place in the article "Dealing with Ich", it says "DO NOT" use salt and in another it says "malachite green and/or salt combination". What is the latest word on using salt to help get rid of ick? "4. Dose the tank with Ich medication. DO NOT add salt despite...

substrates for botias and plants

I would like to get some opinions about using sand rather than using gravel for a freshwater tank. I plan to keep mostly botias. The tank will be either a planted 55 gallon or a planted 75 gallon.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.
