Soul-hugger, I just love detailed responses like yours. Diana is also very good with detailed replies. Yes, Diana is excellent with her responses. She helped me a lot when I was first getting started. I used to get called Mrs. Mulroney in school. (If you are familiar with Canada, you will know that...

I agree with Doc that a 24" (60 cm) tank would work better in the long run. A 20 Gallon Long is actually a perfect tank for Kuhlies. It is 30 inches (76 cm) long but only 12" (30 cm) tall. This way, you could also look at increasing their numbers, as 3 Kuhlies is considered to be an absolute minimum...

If you are a Loach Lover, you can relate to one thing: It is SO easy to find bottom-dwelling fish, but the top ones are harder. It seems that those of us who love Loaches love other bottom-dwelling fish as well. Some of the Danios can be very active. Most of them, though they are small, require a lo...

I agree, Kuhlies are neat little fish. They are some of my favourites as well, hard as it is to choose. I feel bad to say this, but it sounds like your Kuhli may have some kind of tumor. There is some good news and some bad news if this turns out to be the case. The bad news is, there is no way to t...

I know there are people more experienced than myself in the department of fish diseases, but after having read this, something occurred to me. Perhaps there is something wrong with your Loaches' slime coat. I have several Weather Loaches, and every so often they will shed. Sometimes I will find bits...

I would suggest Freshwater Gobies, if you can find them. Check out Odyssey's post in the freshwater section. "Stiphodon Genus of the Goby." There are some absolutely gorgeous pictures of Hillstreams and Gobies kept together.

Have fun setting up your new tank.

Sounds like the tank conditions are good; very similar to the one my Dojos are in. The pH is good at 7.5-8; however it could be much lower now that you are running Co2. I would suggest checking this again just to be sure. If you don't have the tests at home, your favourite LFS will do it for you at ...

Even in a tank with Loaches, some snails will survive. My experience is that the Ramshorn populate the fastest, and have always out-bred any Pond Snails in my tanks. I once went away for a week and when I returned, the Ramshorn snail population had exploded. It got so bad after that the entire tank ...

I would personally go with the rectangular tank as well. The reasons for this are more space and better dimensions, as well as some the others have mentioned. Rectangular tanks are also easier to light, especially if you want to go with high tech planted, or any other plants for that matter. Now I w...

I think it is possible some batches of Otos aren't as healthy as others. I have never had much problem with them; of my last batch of four, one died within the first two days, but the others are doing well. Yet I have a friend who is just having terrible luck with them. The ones that are dying all c...

Hi Apollo..., When I first got my Kuhlies, I worried about them constantly. Several times a day, I would check and try to count each one of them. This could get frustrating and in the end was helping neither me nor my fish. After awhile, I relaxed when I realized they were OK. Pangio Kuhlies do tend...

Hi, ImaxEventer, So sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy to lose pets, especially when they have been with you for so long. Although you cannot exactly replace them, I think you would miss your hobby just as much if you gave it up. No matter how many precautions you take, nothing is ever fai...

Looks like a close match to Botia Dario. The forehead of B. Dario is a little higher and more rounded, with a longer snout than that of other Botias, yet not as long and pointed as those of Syncrossus. I have compared it to some online pictures, but it's hard to tell since this fish is out of the wa...
