I guess I'm too worried about any bad effects to risk it & I hadn't thought of them floating. Sophie I'm glad beth was ok, if temporarily less than kissable As for flowerhorns ....

Darn, Sophie, I wish I'd seen your post yesterday. Had a perfect 1/4 inch, 2 bite sized one between my toes after walking in the grass barefoot. Did your daughter suffer any ill effects from the slug sushi? I take it that your fish have never had any problems from your alternative foods? I saw the a...

Are you changing 25%-40% water before adding more ich treatment, every other day? Gasping could be from a build up of meds, although malachite breaks down pretty fast I'm not sure formalin does. (Assuming thats what is in your ich med.) Did you run carbon in your filter to remove residual meds when ...

Thanks guys, I knew it was too good to be possible. Yes I've stepped on many a slug & squished 1 in my gloved hand on occaision but never the super-sized whitish ones bigger than golf balls. I don't think we have them here. Although my husband is a chemist, we are almost organic as far as our yard g...

slugs as food?
I've just been out gardening & came across a small slug, the first of many I'm sure. Got to thinking aren't they just snails without shells & couldn't they be loach food? We don't use pesticides or anything. Has anyone tried this? Are there any drawbacks like parasites or something?

Seems like all the kubotais I see now are much larger too. Just a reminder about quarrantining especially for fish from stores with central filtation systems. Fish are exposed to water & diseases from all the tanks.I got my striatas from petsmart & one got something that didn't look like ich but res...

Hi Rod, There is a wide range of dosages in the archives search I did a while ago, so don't worry about extremely exact measuring. 10mg/liter every 48 hours for 3 treatment OR 25mg-50mg/gallon (doesn't say to repeat) Almost the same, some people are more comfortable with metric. And just in case you...

All my fish are foodaholics, veggie or meaty. The clown plec is very nocturnal, hardly ever out in the day. I have a clown loach I think of as the veggie loach, the only time she's aggressive is near zuccini, cuke, romaine or the anubias flower once. They & tiger barbs pick at algae but I think mostl...

Beckyrwh, I'm very sorry but not surprised. You'll probably lose the other loaches. Dead fish will cause ammonia etc problems so check at least a couple times a day. I guess at this point you should quit the meds, leave the temp up & continue big water changes. The rasboras may be able to get through...

I'm with newshound, try it. Maybe because he's big he'll be able to hold his own. If you don't already, try some Hikari carnivore pellets. They smell so strong even a blind fish could find them, probably from across the room. I accidentally left the package open a tiny crack once & it took quite a w...

I'm not sure shrimp can have copper in any form. But maybe thats only other kinds of shrimp? Since that's all your eel will eat you should be very careful since copper can be hard to remove totally after use. I'd think they could be the ich carriers since even plants can. Are ghost shrimp the sort y...

I saw them a couple years ago & for one heart-stopping moment thought they were sids. They & the first striatas I saw a few weeks later made me realize how out of touch I was & that it was time to get back into fish-keeping. Do they have the same spunky personalities & swim mid-water like sids?

Many fish like loaches a quite sensitive to even small amounts of chlorine & chloramine. Sounds like you have a home-made water changing system like a Python? I think people add enough de-chlorinator to the tank to treat the entire water volume, not just the replacement quantity, BEFORE adding new wa...
