Re: My loaches go absolutely bonkers for this (added Pics!)

Those are great pics of some gorgeous Clowns!!! The pattern on the one in the last pic is very unusual. Thank you. Regarding the unusual patterns on her. Her bars were actually rearranged in fights with a Modesta I used to have. Yea, it was bloody. I confirmed this by looking at a pic of her on thi...

My loaches go absolutely bonkers for this (added Pics!)

So, I have feed my loaches quite a variety of food and some food they are excited to eat while other food they just don't care too much for. This is not an add! but the Hikari sinking carnivore pellets never fails to get them out of their dwellings and into a feeding frienzy. No matter what time it ...

Re: Clown Loach very dark in black sand

When deciding on the color substrate to choose I found that on most pics with black or very dark sand, the clowns were very dark, especially the older loaches. By contrast I went with white and light tan sand which I mixed with my existing brown gravel. Now they are more lighter and more brightly co...

Re: clown loaches acting weird

Clowns need the company of themselves to live happily without fighting. This is quite natural behaviour whilst one assumes dominance over the other. When you have 5 or more they will fuss over each other and tend not to pick on individuals so much. When there's only two of them I think the attentio...

Re: New Tank - Clown Loaches

Well, I increased the depth of my sand to about 3" a month ago. I will probably use a thin rod to poke the sand and prevent any gases from building up. Just incase.

Re: New Tank - Clown Loaches

redshark1- it's not the ugf that is lowering the nitrates. It's the anaerobic bacteria and microbes that have been colonizing in the bottom layers of the substrate. It's takes many months and years, for these diverse interconnected microbial colonies to fully develop in the substrate bed. You don't...

Re: Tame hand feed Clown loach VDO added Must see!

Well, in the past month they have become even more tame and now chase my hand or pry through my fingers. Little bit scary knowing I am so close to their subocular spine. Sudden movements don't scare them anymore either and they seem very comfortable.
I will post some more videos soon.

Re: How old is your oldest Loach?

I got my first two clown loaches sometime early in 1994. They are still alive today. I may even have some VHS videos of them. The interesting thing is that they are much smaller than one clown loach I got a few years after them. In august 2009 I got 5 baby clown loaches that are almost as large as m...

Re: How old is a 1.5" Clown Loach?

Good question. I always wondered the same thing. My guess: Since they are wild caught and from a place that is seasonal (monsoon), I would guess the majority are less than a year. Probably 7-10 months. It also depends on how long they are kept in the pet store. However, I imagine that the growth in ...
