If golden zebra loach means Botia histrionica, I like them. I have a few. Any loach you can find would be a great addition. how big is the q-tank? A goldfish is pretty messy and will need a bigger tank. A fish in that condition should be kept by itself. And plecos tend to attack the slime of slow & injured fish. Not sure how gentle bristlenose are. And yes, they're cold water fish but can adapt to warmer temps.. It's not...

There are several illnesses that cause dropsy/bloat. There's no one or it could be a combination of things. Instead of relying on some gimmick device to keep a stable tank, you might want to looking into a larger tank/fewer fish, a good filter, and plants.
There are tanks where I change the water every month or two.

Good point Diana, but power outages don't really happen here. No hurricanes, earthquakes, other natural disasters or terrorists. But anything can happen. One is to raise temp to 25C. i don't think any fish eat poop. They might move things around.

Try a couple of otos instead of a SAE. SAEs grow pretty big.
