Re: Throw away your canister filters !

Thanks everyone for the comments and also to the other readers of my account of my experimentation with undergravel filters. Hi Mark and thanks for your positive comment :) . I do a light vacuum on half the tank floor each week. The gravel is deep so I vacuum the top half. This gives me a 20% weekly...

Re: Best substrate for Clown Loaches?

Hi dejoneser, the reason I prefer gravel is that I successfully employ undergravel as my preferred method of filtration in my current setup. My Clowns are in this successful setup for the full term. Long may it last. However, I would not dream of knocking what anyone else does as there are many inte...

Re: Clown loach diet advice

Two Clown Loaches is not enough for a shoal, but I am surprised they are not eating well even so. I would firstly suggest paying close attention to the water quality, oxygenation and temperature as the factors most likely to cause loss of appetite, but you may well be on top of that. Is the uneaten ...

Great tank dimensions. Good luck with the project.

Re: How to know when my clowns need a larger tank?

I cannot give you the first hand answer you deserve. HOwever, I encourage you to look after them the best you can. The fish may retain the potential for growth. I started with mine in this 6ft tank and feel it is best to start large (I was recommended 3ft by the retailer!). My fish increased in grow...

Re: Best substrate for Clown Loaches?

Same loaches on black gravel http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh204/redshark1/6AquariumSteveJoul2102115.jpg And natural gravel http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh204/redshark1/DSC04079.jpg I think the difference as illustrated in my case is very clear. Two of my aquaria have sand but I prefer na...

Throw away your canister filters !

Hello Clown Loach lovers, just kidding about the title, but I have done this recently for my own reasons. After years of consistent and successful care I have recently taken two steps to improve my enjoyment of my 17 year old Clown Loaches. First and as reported earlier I changed my black gravel to ...

Re: Whats your favorite loach?

If it wasn't for my Clown Loaches I wouldn't have loaches at all. They are my favourite aquarium fish by miles. No other loaches have the special attraction for me, though many are fine fish. If not Clown Loaches I would be very attracted to the Red-tailed Black Shark. I like the larger silver-colou...

Re: Is it enough space?

No experience of the peat, but I wouldn't think it would be a great idea with digging fish !

I prefer gravel but some of my tanks have sand. Of more importance is having good filtration.
