Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
Will you have live plants? I forget. My pangios loved to hang out in them all the way to the surface. Scared me more than once, but we all got used to that eventually...They didn't move for water changes if I went slowly. Easy plants include java fern & anubias attached to wood or rocks, not in the ...

No better authority than Dr. Tan! But still, offer up your pics on FB loach fanatics. There are some very knowledgeable folks there too. They may have more or different insights. Fish can have so many variations, it can be hard to say exactly what species they may be. Good luck!

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
I think I like your striped pangios, striatas & kubotais better! Not that I've kept that combo. Clowns & yoyos seem also more compatible in size & temperament...I haven't tried them together either...If you do it we're going to need pics! Yes, I do tend to understock. If I can't get "enough" of a sp...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
I had only 6 striatas in a 4ft tank with 10 sids. The zebras were very shy. I wished I could have gotten more but not at that time. They're such pretty loaches, I wonder if they'd have been less shy with more of them. 6 is a minimum IMO, more is much better. Yoyos, from all I've read, are more boist...

Re: Need some stocking advice for my second loach tank
I think I'd skip the yoyos & go with more kubotai & striatas. I know nothing about the pink tail chalceus(?) but they get big don't they? Maybe a pearl gourami instead, or trio, M & 2 females? I might go with a couple less roselines but that maybe ok. My only question is are they all temperature com...

Re: Target feeding dwarf chain loaches
I didn't find sids to be that hard to feed. Give flakes or slow sinking bits for the dithers & a few wafers or pellets etc. for the loaches. If you only feed them at night you will encourage them to be more crepuscular/nocturnal. I preferred to see them with lights on. Let them settle into your tank...

Re: Sewellia sp. Spotted Male/Female?
I'm not sure Mike. The first looks female to me, the second is iffier. I only have s. lineolata so not an expert in any way on other sewellia or hillies in general. What size are they? You might try joining loach fanatics on Facebook. There's a lot more traffic there these days but you have to wait ...

Re: question about zebra loaches
My zebras (striatas) were more shy than sids. I only had 6 in with 10 sids in a 75g. They danced at water changes & came out for food. They lived 3 zebras with 5 sids at each end of the tank. Might be different with only zeebs, maybe 8 or so. But they tend to shyness I hear from others too. Also the...

Re: Angelicus Botia adult size
I think you have to use a photo hosting site to post pics. This site uses an old format, no easy phone or camera option I guess. I wouldn't know I just got a smart-ish phone & haven't figured it out yet. We'd love to see! I think tiger barbs aren't a bad choice for a botia tank. How many do you have...

Hi Eika, I don't have an opinion on your fish. But if you join Facebook loachfanatics you may get a better answer. You may have to wait a few days to be approved but it's a more active site than this 1 (sniffle). I miss the old LOL days, I'm not much of a facebooker.

Re: Angelicus Botia adult size
Welcome to LOL No, I don't think you made a mistake, I think 6 b. kubotai will be fine in a 55g. I have yet to keep them but at ~5 inches you should be ok :) They're on my short wish list. I have kept sids & you could have had even more. Next time, next tank? What other fish will you keep with the k...

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
Bas Pels, I agree that an ancistrus or several of the same sex may be fine with clowns, I've done it for a while & with other small plecos. But, as you said, fry may not. & at what point do the plecos spines threaten any loach "snacks"? I don't really mind some fry getting eaten (oops, sorry to you ...

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
"Next time" I keep clowns, I would go with larger "dither fish" that enjoy the same tank conditions (higher temp, faster flow). Medium sized barbs or larger rainbowfish, maybe bigger rasboras. But also keep in mind clowns can live a long time (looking at you redshark! :D ) So, you could have dithers...

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?
MTS, I think you've made a wise decision to NOT keep weather loaches (of any species) in a mixed tropical botia tank. It's a hard call, we all here want as many loach species as we can, but as well as healthy fish as we can too. I keep hoping my next tank will be the right 1...but not yet...More tan...

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?
Yes, they prefer cooler temps than tropical, although there are people who keep them higher. They're bred for both pet & in places, food trades (eww). Both the mass production & incorrect temp can add to health problems. In the US they are usually misgurnus anguillicaudatus & are illegal in at least...
