Re: Clowns with cloudy eyes; help!

Fungal infections are rare among fish and in general. Cloudy eyes usually indicate septicemia though the white cysts could indicate a concurrent parasite issue. Since you're in the Bay Area, you can take your loaches to the UC Davis veterinary hospital. Their number is 530-752-1393. Hit 3 at the mai...

Re: Please Help! Dojo Loach=Skinny Disease?

I usually use kanamycin for this since mycobacteria cannot be killed by many antibiotics. If you ever encounter a case where the infection is stubborn, remember kanamycin.

Re: Advice

Some LFS had TDS so high that it seemed low on one of my TDS meters. It appeared to be a low number until I realized it was over 1000 and my TDS meter had truncated the value.

I often spend hours drip acclimating fish and have to put an airstone and heater in their buckets.

Re: Cloudy Pop Eye - best medication

It really depends on what bacteria is causing the infection and cloudy eyes are almost always the result of a bacterial infection. Kanamycin, erythryomycin, and oxytetracycline are good for columnaris, a common culprit. http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/eyes.html These guys sell a lot of ant...

Re: Persistent Pop-eye in White Cloud Minnow. Help, please?

You need to use a real antibiotic. TMP sulfa or kanamycin.

Re: Starving hillstreams!

Assume that intestinal parasites will consume a fraction of the fishes' food intake. Assume the worst case scenario is that they consume 100% of it. What's that the equivalent of? That's right, starvation. Would a fish without parasites become skeletal after just a few days without food? No, so some...

Re: Battle Weary Loach

My alpha loach was constantly chasing the others. I added a strong powerhead (there wasn't much current prior) and that aggression went away.

Re: moving coast to coast

I guess shipping them is your only option then. It's going to be expensive to do it right but there chances are no worse than being rehomed (unless you can find a really good home for them). I've read many threads on other forums where someone acquired a bunch of big old loaches that were previously...

Re: moving coast to coast

My loaches spent 3 days on the road with me. I put 16 of them and a medium sized Oscar in a 40 gal acrylic tank in the trunk filled with ~15 gal of water. I also put in an airstone, 50W heater, and all the bioballs from my wet/dry filter (that kept the water quality quite nice during the trip and al...

Turn the lights off. In the few pictures I've seen of their natural habitat, the water is pretty murky. Mine are out quite often, especially in the mornings and evenings or if they're hungry.

You didn't try taking her to the vet? I had a "growth" successfully removed from the face of one of my bristlenose plecostomus.

I have two Mag Drives, one Eheim, one GRI, one Gen-X Mak4, one of the new Maxi-Jet pumps, and the QuietOne and the QuietOne is by far the worst pump. There's a reason they're much cheaper than the others.
