Need to rehome my precious dojos ...

but, I don't want to have to ship them through the mail or by ground. I need for someone who lives close to my area to come and get them. I live in the north Idaho panhandle, U.S.A. This person must be very experienced in keeping healthy dojos, and must love these cute little fish. This person must ...

Re: Throw away your canister filters !

As far as gravel and barbels are concerned, my little dojos have rounded gravel in my 65-gallon, and their barbels have been totally unaffected. They scarf down their luxurious dojo food (spoiled little babies!) with ease and are healthy and intact. The gravel is about pea sized. I'm careful not to ...

Re: Weather loach

Good point! Weather loaches are cooler water fish. They suffer in temps above 70F or 72F, max.

Has there been any drastic changes in pH, temperature, or other water parameters? Did you dechlorinate when you last changed the water?

What has been his or her diet?

How is your dojo doing, now?

Re: Weather loach

Could it be a pregnant female? Perhaps eggbound? If it looks like a fat stomach, that might be the case. And if she is pale, then perhaps she is having problems dispensing her eggs. I'm afraid I don't know what to do in that situation. Anyone here experienced with that situation? She (or he) might a...

Re: Aquascaping Issues.

I wish to add: If you tie java ferns or anubias nana to rocks or driftwood, I don't see how your fish can eat those bases. The only bottom dwellers that eat wood are certain species of pleco, such as bristlenose. They need to eat wood as part of their diet. I save the weighted bases that come with m...

Re: Aquascaping Issues.

The only way to have uneaten live plants in an aquarium is to not have any animals in there with them. Or have all carnivorous animals, in which case, they may eat one another. Carnivores will need to be fed the appropriate foods, such as brine shrimp, blood worms and other prey foods. But if you wa...

Re: scared loaches?

A few things I can think of: Did you take the time to acclimate them to the new tank water before putting them into the new tank? Is the new tank cycled? Did you transfer established filter media over to its filters to provide an instant supply of beneficial bacteria? Is the water chemistry and temp...

Re: Please help me!

You obviously have a bully fish that has been harassing the others. Your loaches may have had plenty of places to hide, but they can't hide all of the time. They have to come out to eat and some species of loach become very active after dark. It sounds like your leopard fish has grown too large for ...

Re: How long do loaches live?

A healthy weather loach (dojo) can live up to ten years. I've had mine for about three years, and they're still going strong.

Re: Tankmates for Weather Loaches

Looks like Zodiac is a golden dojo. Yes, they are spoiled, and it's hard not to spoil them. They're so cute! The rubber band might do okay for awhile, but will eventually rot away, and you'll need to tie the plant with fishing line, which will last permanently. Also, I am wondering if the material a...

Re: Super Glue is really safe???

When using silicone, use only silicone that is specifically made for aquariums. Your LFS should stock some. The household silicones that you buy at places like Home Depot aren't always aquarium safe, and most will say so on their labels. Even aquarium silicone must be used in a well-ventilated area,...

Re: Tankmates for Weather Loaches

A word of caution about Anubias and Java Ferns. They have rhizomes that should never be buried in the substrate, as that would rot them. They can be tied with invisible fishing line to rocks, wood or other ornaments, or their roots can be buried as long as the rhizomes are on or above the substrate....

Re: Tankmates for Weather Loaches

Aquarium fish all over the world would fare much better if everyone were as "neurotic" about monitoring fish-in cycling as you are. Too many beginners don't understand or don't care enough to keep tabs on their water chemistry during this dicey period. You are obviously much more experienced. Kudos!...

Re: Some pics of my coldwater tanks ...

Just bumping these up because there are newbies here who haven't seen them. The very last pic shows one of my dojo loaches while he was still in my 20-gallon-high. He's right out there in front on the substrate, in the pic shot at a somewhat diagonal angle. As soon as I can get my photo program work...
