Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
Ammonia still reading 2 ppm. Nitrates and nitrates still at 0 pmm. Bummed. Clearly Dr. Tim's didn't work. Guess I need to do a water change to drop the ammonia ppm. I'm lost!

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
Still waiting for the cycle to start lol. Dosed ammonia at 2ppm when I set it up and it's still just chillin' there  Right or wrong here's what i did tonight: Did a maintenance 50% water change on the 55, topped off the 125 with some of the dirty water from the siphon. Washed both Aquaclear 70 ...

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
Well done, lost of hiding places is nice. The only thing I'd suggest is to actually have vertical coverage. You'll be surprised how much bottom feeders like going up when there's actually something to explore... How do I create this? I love Bas suggestions of emergent plants and intend on planting ...

Re: PHOTOS
With much respect it is not a parasite but water quality issue. To me it is obvious but its hard convincing anyone else. No disrespect taken, you know much more about this than me! Any chance you're feeding your loaches snails Fran? The blackspot I'm familiar with is heavily reliant on them as part...

Re: PHOTOS
Fran can you post a picture of this black spot you're referring too? I have no familiarity with it in tropical tanks, but there is a very common parasite in temperate climates such as the Midwest that presents itself in fish.

The wife added the black trash bags to the back, after me being indecisive about painting the back. It looks good. Turned on both the filte...

Re: Sand for loaches?
I purchase paver stage 2 sand at Home Depot. It's beautifully dark brown. The pool filter sand here was almost white and closer to the consistency of table salt whereas the paver sand is considerably larger in size, with teeny tiny pebbles mixed throughtout. I spent two hours tonight cleaning it, th...

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
Drained the kitty pool tonight, looked like diluted tea! Refilled and gonna let this driftwood keep soaking. From what it looks like, the tannin look is going to probably be a part of the tank between water changes

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
I should add, none of the rocks i kept - to the best of my knowledge are limestone. Limestone, even when polished retains its gritty feel. Most of what i have is some color variant of granite

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
Where abouts are you located? I remember people in Mich. morel hunting "up north" but I never did. I have original rocks from Lake MI, the whitish ones are limestone & not the best in aquaria although we still have some, nor are Petosky (?) stones. They both break down (slowly) & add to the inland ...

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
So, all my ordering is done (I think lol!!) Thanks to Diana reassuring me about the Aquaclears I went ahead and got 2 Aquaclear 110's. I really wanted the FX6, but at the price compared to the Aquaclears there was no argument to be had. Plus, my better half enjoyed I was spending OVER 50% less thank...

Re: Help me build the perfect loach tank
I don't want to move the fish over sooner, just try and help seed the tank with bacteria -last thing I want to do it seed it with parasites though! As you all mentioned, if the water is warm and I do inadvertently move an ich parasite over it should die from lack of a host. I really think I'm at the...
