Re: New to loaches...couple ??
I have 2 Yoyos in a 90 gallon tank, and they school with the other 6 botias in the tank. There's a reason why they are named Bold and Italics... Bold is the largest fish in the tank (and the alpha), but also one of the shyest. She hides in her cave all day and comes out around mealtimes. She'll chas...

Re: Kuhli in small tank
Where they swim in the tank and what your filtration system is like is secondary to your total number fish. In other words, your tank holds X number of fish, and you would never have all of them occupy the same area of the tank or not have enough filtration for them. The number of fish is so importa...

Re: Kuhli in small tank
I would take the yoyo and glass cat back if I were you. The yoyo will definitely get too big and too aggressive as it ages (definitely vicious if he's in too small a space), and the glass cat is a schooling fish that need several of their own kind in order to be happy. You might not want to hear thi...

Testing KH and GH
I have the API test with the drops, but the chart confuses me because it's one chart for both KH and GH. If it takes 3 drops to turn for KH and 8 drops for GH, does that mean my KH is 53.7ppm and my GH is 143.2 ppm? Are those numbers kind of low and high respectively?

Re: Non-Lethal Skinny Disease? Dojo Loach Issues
Well, they survived the anti-biotics and two of the three worm treatments. I have to say that they didn't seem to struggle nearly as much with the second worm treatment as they did with the first. The septicemia in the gold dojos seems just a tad worse than when I started this whole process, but the...

Call Fishy Business Aquarium, looks like they might be the type to either have something in stock or be able to order it for you.

Cool Loach Shops
Watching atmichaels and Jim Powers talk about the cool hillstreams that atmichaels found at GunPowder Aquatics made me wonder what places people shop to find COOL loaches. As much as I love the usual clowns and yoyos, there's something exciting and addicting about finding those really uncommon speci...

Re: New to Loach keeping - Weather loaches dying in Quaranti
I wouldn't worry about the head bobbing. When my dojos are on a bare surface, they do the same thing. I think it's because they think they see food. The healthy ones will even race around the tank with their head down on the bottom like they're trying to swim through the bottom of the tank. I wish I...

Re: Is this B. histrionica?
I have a similar looking fish, the second (and the rest of the following) pictured in this thread: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25114
It was sold as a kubotai, but as you can see, I'm not so sure.

Re: Non-Lethal Skinny Disease? Dojo Loach Issues
I did the final 50% water change yesterday (Tuesday) and gave them the rest of the day off. It took a few hours after I inserted the active carbon, but the fish are doing much better...active and hungry again. Today (Wednesday), I'm adding the furan-2 powder to the water. I'll be using it as directe...

Re: Non-Lethal Skinny Disease? Dojo Loach Issues
So...loach care diary. People often don't seem to update what happened with their fish, but I want to try to help people who come along later. So I cleaned the tank this weekend- about a 70% water change/ gravel vacuum. Between the anti-biotics and the wormer and the lights being off, I figured ther...

Re: Levamisole treatment
P.S. I think there's information out there about dosing that's wrong. Some websites and packages say 5 grams/ 100 gallons. Using the calculations on loaches.com, I found I needed a little less than 1 gram per 90 gallons. People who overdosed that much complained that some or all of their fish died. ...

Re: Levamisole treatment
I'm not really sure what is wrong with my fish; they're exhibiting a number of symptoms, with skinny disease just being one of them. I've heard that some fish suffer from secondary infections after they are wormed, so I decided to be thorough in their treatment. I plan on doing a treatment of furan ...

Re: Levamisole treatment
http://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/levamisole-hydrochloride-1 When the website goes back up, this will tell you everything you need to know about levamisole. It says to turn the light off and remove the active carbon from your filters. It also says to leave it in the tank for 24 hours before rem...
