Thanks Emma. You are probably correct in that I could easily be assimilated. Resistance may be futile. Your description gives me a better understanding of their behavior. I would appreciate more video of course. Since I am starting fresh with a new tank (new fish that is), I have a chance to choose ...

I knew they were fun to watch but they are totally addictive, I spent most of last night glued to the tank watching them settle in Laughing Having seen your beautiful pictures of your P. cheni and also many other pictures of Hill streams on LOL, I can see the attraction that they have for many. But...

I am in the process of setting up a river tank (75 g) and wanted sand for the substrate. All pool filter sand in this area is white and I wanted a more natural look. The local LFS just had white or black. After a long search, both on the web, and at more distant LFS's, I found sand that I really lik...

I'm glad that you like it. Thanks. I have taken a look at your fish food calculator. I really like your idea that essentially all input pollution comes from the food that we put in the tank (whether it is eaten or not) so that the amount of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc. can be estimated. Yes, I ag...

For anyone interested, I have edited and updated the derivation of the formulas for the water changes that appear earlier on this thread. Since I wanted to check everything for accuracy and see that the formulas work, I took the time to add the accumulating pollution option to chefkeith's spreadshee...

While thinking about the formulas given above, I have realized that I probably did not choose the best model when adding the r increase in pollution due to fish waste. I had chosen to have it change as a percentage of the amount of current pollution, but I think it will be more realistic if it is a ...

Kris,

Martin and the others are correct. It is not your fault. Sometimes, despite our best intentions, events are beyond our control.

MTS- It sounds like you have worked out a good system. Well done. I'm still working out how I want to do things so I appreciate hearing how you have done it. Thanks.

Below is the new edited version. It's kind of a lot, but I have explained the math to do water changes. Sorry that the format is not great, but it was just the easiest way for me to do it (I used the symbolic math program called Maple). http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s14/k8472w/WC1-1.jpg http://...

chefkeith- While riding the train to visit my daughter in MA, I checked your calculations. They are correct. I have just a few small suggestions. 1. Your columns are labeled, for example "Next week pollutant %". It should be "Next week pollutant % change", since you just list the % change. 2. When I...

Vancmann- I like your Giant Danios. Do you have those in a loach tank or a river tank? What temperature range is good for Giant Danios? I am finding conflicting information at other sites. I would like to put them in a CL tank, but it may be too warm for them.
