Re: Sids & aquarium salt

I am not exactly sure how to do it properly. Definitely removing the water very slowly (maybe 5% a week or 5% every few days with vacuuming) without adding salt is the way to go. The problem is that if you remove too much at one time, you can really damage your fish, and I am not sure how to avoid t...

Re: Sids & aquarium salt

Never add salt and loaches and most catfish (especially cories) for that matter. Do you also remove the salt? You know if doesn't evaporate like the water does, so the salt concentrates in the water. Do you check the salinity? There's so reason to use salt in a freshwater tank. Yes, if you have brac...

Re: Aquarium without hood and light

Just watch those Hillstreams, because there are several videos of hillstreams exiting their containers. And Cories have been known t overshoot the surface. Please share pictures. I am sure there are a few DIY projects on here with lighting.

Re: Annual Fish Auction in Tampa, FLorida 11.10.12

Thank you. I couldn't for the life of me remember it. Andres Ryan has amazing fish. I highly recommend his fish. I have received some at auction and his Celestial Danios are birght and healthy, his Royal Farlowelas are amazing and I love his Panda Garras. I have had some now for 3 years I think. He ...

Re: Aquarium without hood and light

It depends on the fish you are keeping. What is the size of the tank and what fish are you keeping? I say that because all my tanks are closed tightly, since loache,s eels, some catfish, ropefish, crawdad, bichir, Afrocan Butterfly, panda garra, bamboo shrimp . . . are all escape artists and I own t...

Re: Newbie setting up a loach tank.

How long has the tank been set up?

Is it cycled completely?

What are the Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate readings?

What is the temp?

Maybe there's something wrong with the tank that is making the barbs stressed. Do you have a bully in the group?

Re: Newbie setting up a loach tank.

I am really surprised that the barbs are nervous. I know nothing about barbs so I can't help you there at all.

Absolutely fantastic. So these were not accidently spawned? You really worked hard on them. Amazing! I bet it feels great to have them.

Re: Is my weather loach okay?

How long have you owned this loach? How big is the tank? What decorations do you have? Do you have other Dojos? What is the temp in the tank? What other fish live in the tank? How big is the loach? May help us to determine if the loach is okay. Loaches ar eknown for swimming oddly, but it sound like...

Re: Pics from my tanks

If they are African Dwarf Frogs, they are fully aquatic. There are also African Clawed frogs, but you have to be careful with them as they grow large and love fish. :) I love the frogs. Need to keep the water clean, make sure no one is able to eat the frogs, and that the frogs get enough to eat. Som...

Re: Bristlenose Catfish Fry Question

I am so happy to see them eat. Good thing. These are shrimp. I think they are a color morph of the red cherry shrimp. They look like this But mine are much bluer!: http://www.planetinverts.com/Blue%20Pearl%20Shrimp.html I keep BN and dwarf shrimp togehter. They breed and grow up together nicely.

Re: Annual Fish Auction in Tampa, FLorida 11.10.12

I agree. The pandas are tiny, less than an inch, but they grow fast. I looked for Andres Ryan's website, but I am not sure if it is live yet. He's the farmer most of the exotic fish come from including the Pandas. He is Canadian. :) When I find the website, I will post it, because I bet you could or...
