I'll see how they respond to the freeze-dried daphnia, which they've never had before. If they like that, then I'll move up to live brine shrimp for them. Five-star treatment for my little loaches!

Re: How can I further spoil my little Dojos?
The pampered little pets are going to be feasting on freeze-dried daphnia pretty soon, as soon as my LFS gets it in. I don't think my other fish will be complaining much, either. Dojos got their o-nips this morning and pigged out. It's so fun to watch them devour their favorite foods like there's no...

Re: Spotted Dojo Loaches -- Eating Habits and General Questi
1. Dojo loaches are coldwater fish. Your temperature for them shouldn't exceed 70F for prolonged periods of time. It will shorten their lives if your tank is consistently too warm. 2. While they'll eat during the day, Dojos tend to be nocturnal feeders. If you drop in algae pellets at night before y...

Re: Show us your Funny Loach Pic's
What is the step-by-step procedure for posting pics in this forum? I have a pair of very cute Dojos I'd like to show off, here.

Re: How can I subdue the lighting for my dojo loaches?
Those of us with Java Moss need prefilter sponges on the intake tubes of our filters, or they get clogged up pretty fast from that stuff. Thought one of my little Dojos was sick for awhile, but I guess he just brushed up against something in the tank that shed onto his barbel. It was gone from there...

Re: Sick Dojo?
UPDATE: Whatever was on his barbel is gone, and he has regained his appetite. Looks like little Dojo will be fine, afterall. Maybe he was just moody? Or just not hungry at that moment? I'm glad this resolved itself, because I sure didn't get any help, here.

Re: New Loach, what to get?
How warm is your tank? If you have Kuhlis, it must be quite warm. Dojos prefer colder water. Could be why they aren't interested in eating the snails. Water which is constantly above 70F will shorten the life of a Dojo. Just thought you should know ...

Sick Dojo?
When I checked my tank this morning, only one of my two Dojos was out and about. Couldn't find the other one anywhere. I figured if I gave them their favorite food, Sera's o-nip chunks, I could flush them both out. My first and largest Dojo came after it like there was no tomorrow. Usually, they bot...

Re: How can I subdue the lighting for my dojo loachs?
Likewise here. Floating plants will provide shade, as will handy caves in the tank. I have floating hornwort, java moss and water sprite in my tank. Had anacharis, but transferred it to my goldfish tubs. I give my Dojos lots of little hiding places, and they love to use the floating plants for beds....

How can I further spoil my little Dojos?
Dojos are the puppy-dogs of aquaria. We all like to spoil our puppy-dogs, don't we? These little guys get their water changed and their gravel vacuumed regularly. They have lots of nice caves to hide in, and they get their favorite foods often -- O-Nip tablets and algae pellets. They have soft float...

Re: What temp is your dojo happy at?
Glenna, in my tank with my Dojos, I have White Cloud Minnows, Zebra Danios, Glo-Fish Danios, Rosy Barbs and Japanese Trapdoor Snails (coldwater snails). All of these fish peacefully co-exist with my Dojos. Sometimes during a feeding frenzy, or when the barbs get restless, they'll peck at the Dojos o...

Re: My Weather Loaches had babies!!!!
You should set up a small fry tank and transfer the baby loaches into it so they can escape being eaten by larger fish. To keep them from being killed by the cycling process (which could take up to 8 weeks to complete), you should use Seachem's Stability in the fry tank for at least 7 days. That wil...

Re: External Filter
I'm not familiar with that type of filter. However, if the clips keep coming off despite your best effort at securely fastening them, then I would say it's cheaply made and not of good quality construction. It might still filter well, but I am wondering how long it can last if it's so flimsy. I woul...

Re: What temp is your dojo happy at?
Dojos are coldwater fish. They can live in tropical tank temperatures, but doing so shortens their lifespan. They really shouldn't be in water that is continually 70F or warmer. In my coldwater tank, the temperature hovers around 65 to 68, occasionally going up to 70. When it gets that high, I float...

Re: to catch a khuli
75 degrees F is really too warm for Dojos. The research I have done states that while they'll live in water that warm, their lives will be shortened considerably in water that stays constantly at 70F or above. Dojos are coldwater fish. Ordinarily, they can live for several years. Temps that get that...
