What if you took a HOB filter as big as you could fit on the side of a 33 like maybe an AC500 and then used tubing to extend the intake to the opposite end of the tank. Then pile up lots of rocks to make agentle water fall type ...

Hi Ian, The filstar xp3 cansister is a good one. Like martin said loaches will like the current , but the rest well he covered that. With media the flow will be alot less than the rated 350gph. Some canister spec's are measured with no media in the filter which is misleading. Actually alot of eheims...

I hate to say but a 20 gal 2.5weeks old tank is practically a death sentence for any fish especially loaches. Hagen Cycle is magical snake oil and does nothing. It takes 4-8 weeks roughly to cycle a tank. There are several ways to do this. 1) Do a fishless cycle. (but you have fish already so that i...

The praecox rainbows I find very active schoolers which I love watching. The added bonus is that they regularly breed so get free ones now and then. But yes They have definately have been popular lately. The breeding and dominace rituals is quiet interesting. Here's an example from my tank. Erik htt...

When I had hygrophelia in there it was deinitely a weekly wack hehe.

I could trim weekly now, but I like to let go to jungle. After that I trim into bunches and sell to my lfs for store credit (bloodworms). I use bulk diy fertilizers so my costs to run the tank is pretty low.

as JD said you will be fine with yoyo's and darios. I would however skip the gouramis and red tailed shark and just get a school of praecox rainbows. They are beautiful and make a great dither fish as they like current like loaches. I find too many species in one tank looks strange, thats why I went...
