Re: R.I.P. big guy!

What a pity, but well, fish don't live forever.

Re: Aquarium without hood and light

Which works nicely is if you use gutter and T5/T8 tubes inside and the ballast outside.
Or you can just use small CFL lights, like the 20W ones.

Re: Newbie setting up a loach tank.

Looks good. It just has to settle.
What flowrate do you have in there?
Are the fish already in?

Re: Pics from my tanks

Amazing fish selection. I am very jealous! How do the frogs survive in there? Son't they need a place to sit outside the water?

Use Photobucket to upload it and insert it on the forum with the tags. There's a button on the post formatting toolbar.

Please upload pics. I would love to see it.

Re: First Hillstream tank (loaches and Gobies)

Thanks! The tank is getting in a better shape every week.
I want to stop dosing excel soon as I don't know if it's affecting Green Dust Algae growth badly.
And I'm still looking for more fish for the tank :(

Re: First Hillstream tank (loaches and Gobies)

3 of the 4 H.smithi has gotten fatter and are looking healthy. The other one is a bit slow when it comes to getting food. The G.zebrinus comes out a lot more and is quite active. The S.atropurpureus is still a bit pale but I'm seeing some flaring and bumping every now and then, and it has happened t...

Re: First Hillstream tank (loaches and Gobies)

I hope it gets easier. I manually remove a lot of hair algae weekly. A friend had a similar problem with his river tank but that cleared up as the tank got settled.

Re: First Hillstream tank (loaches and Gobies)

Thanks for the reply mattyd.

The blackworm thing you do sounds very cool. I would like to try it but have no idea where to get live black/bloodworm here in SA. I'll try to find out.
The H smithi will eat BBS and mosquito larvae.

I will keep trying to feed some zucchini/cucumber to the G. zebrinus.

Re: First Hillstream tank (loaches and Gobies)

Thanks Jim. Once my exams are done I will definitely make time to get some, meanwhile we should hope that the rocks in a bucket outside gathers some algae. As I've said, I have a 1ft tank with some Angel fry in it and the green dust algae grows quickly in there. I think I can try to grow some on the...
