"cave angelfish" and blind loaches

So we were watching the Planet Earth marathon on Discovery last night and they get to the cave episode. And they're talking about troglodytic fish and they show one they call a "cave angelfish". And I'm staring at it and thinking "That's no cichlid -- it looks like some of the fish on the LOL forum....

a few more questions...?

Hmmm. Still considering this, since it'd have to be done in my carpeted bedroom upstairs. Hate to move it because it's right next to the bathroom, which makes siphoning easy, so this *would* solve the problem as long as I'm very *very* careful... I'm only working with a 60 gal, but it's also just on...

I'd be interested in finding out if there are alternatives as well, since I really don't like dealing with chlorinated bleach and any traces it might leave. Plus the same space issues that you have. I've heard of hydrogen peroxide being used for sterilization (2 oz to the gallon) -- that just decomp...

Hi, Shari -- Yeah, the clowns were getting patches like that near the end, and had a very obvious greeny-brown shine on their black stripes. Some had bits of slime coat starting to come off. Four were very young and the biggest has always been a bit on the delicate side since the last tank plague. I...

Yes, they've been getting 25% daily water changes from the beginning, when I noticed the flashing. I upped it to 50% this weekend and vacuumed *very* thoroughly. I've been putting back in the same percentage of medication I take out with each change, as well. I tested for nitrates and it's usually 5...

Velvet. Arrrrrgh.

Man, oh man. So I think I mentioned that I got new loaches a few weeks back, after finally getting over the trauma of losing the first couple to what I had then thought was an ich plague. Their being new fish and babies, I was on the lookout for anything that might be amiss (the tank they went into ...

Thanks, NancyD, that was exactly the answer I was looking for :-) Cool, I think I'll get it for the vitamin aspect, since it sinks and will more likely get their attention. I already use Rally on newcomers, which supposedly gets at parasites, so I was considering the food more in a supporting role o...

Spectrum Thera +A and copper in loach food?

Hmm, seems like I can't shut up now... So I was looking through the food section at the LFS today and they had this stuff called "Spectrum Thera + A" by NewLife, a "non-medicated anti-parasitic 1mm sinking pellet". There's a picture of a clown on the label. I've always been worried about new fish br...

Hee! Too cute -- did you use a flash on that, or were the lights on? I can only ever get pictures of nappers when the lights are off and I don't use flash, so they always come out like this:

Martin -- Yep, a year. I believe I first came upon this site in March of 2006? That was around the time that I got my first trio of clowns, and I was checking out tank parameters. Instead, I got sucked into looking through all the pretty profiles and found myself planning entirely new tanks... Thank...

mamaschild - San Diego! Can't wait until the weather warms up enough to start spending weekends down there -- such a gorgeous place. I'm sort of surprised about the lack of Cali representation as well, depressing! Even the number of tropical fish hobbyist societies seemed on the sparse side, which i...

Intro, substrate questions, and any southern californians?

Hello, everyone! Eep, how exciting and scary. I've been lurking around here for a year or so but finally got up the nerve to register and post, since I have a legitimate question that Google couldn't solve. So, I'm setting up a new tank. Just got my hands on a 60 gallon, since I've been dying to upg...
