What a beautiful clown! I with I was closer than 200 miles away.

It was Aquarium Adventure on Glen Cove Rd. near Mineola. So far out of the 25 I brought home I've lost the 5 biggest Kuhlis. For some reason the little ones seemed to have fared better. All 9 of the baby Clowns are still with me and no one in the Q-tank has come down with ich. Something very unusual...

My understanding is that many LFS have stopped ordering them because of the high mortality during shipping. Every once in a great while I find some in the NY Tri-State area.

Here's the little guy with the "skunk" markings and one of his pals. It's really hard to get pictures of these baby clowns, they are so skitish!

Neither me or the guy at the LFS had any idea how many were in the bag when he went to ring them up. It was only after taking the photo above that I was able to count them. I paid for 18 of them but it turns out there were 25 in the bag. After doing time in the Q-tank they will go into the 150g show...

They are a mixture of P. myersi and what appear to be P. semicincta. There could be some P. cuenovirgata, but only time will tell. If they grow big they're semicincta.

Loaches are a tricky species. Environmental stress a major cause of of death in these fish when newly acquired. Three out of six of the people who wrote the newly published loach book (including one who is an importer and LFS owner) are advising you to drip acclimate. So, why chance it?

Keeping these loaches on odd numbered groups of 3 or more will minimize, even eliminate any squabbling.

One could also go out and buy that fabulous book Loaches: Natural History and Aquarium Care.

The little guy at the top of the photo has a row of orange dots in each black stripe running down his back. Looks like morse code. -o-o-o-

Jasper and his brother Timmy will be 18 months old on January 1st. He does this almost every day. Something tells me he won't be growing out of it. The only thing Jasper likes better than fish is playing fetch with a crumpled up piece of paper.

Jasper loves fish.
