Day 9

Wow, the markings have just coloured in incredably over the last two days: http://www.loachtank.org/albums/userpics/10107/p.cheni_fry_day9_20060307.jpg We have a proper little fish here now with nice clear marking (including the fake eye on the tail) I am starting to suspect we only have two survivo...

I must say Les, that your documentation of this development has been fascinating to see. Now i'll be looking forward to seeing your updates on the Sewellia lineolata sp...

Update on day 7

Hi all, One of the young fry has decided it has had enough of lurking in the gravel today and has been out practising it's camouflage skills. So you are 7 days old and trapped in a sparsely covered net, where do you hide? http://www.loachtank.org/albums/userpics/10107/p.cheni_fry_day7%2B3week1_20060...

I are hillstream

Thanks for the assimilation (I think) :-) Here is an update on day 5. http://www.loachtank.org/albums/userpics/10107/p.cheni_fry_day5_20060302.jpg The fry can hide well when they want to, the cream colour lends its self to the surrounding gravel very well. Only one eye visible i'm afraid but compari...

Got one!

Day three and i managed to get this shot:
Image

It's the best of a bad bunch (i.e. all the rest just show gravel!) but you can see the decrease in the size of the egg sack and how the eyes are much more prominent.

More pics

I have been trying to get an updated shot of the tiny loaches alas this is the best i have managed: http://dienyddio.com/~les/baby_tail.jpg It is astonishing to see the change over the last 24 hours (i just wish i could get a picture to show you!) there is much more definition to the head with the e...

Great photo of what I know have to be tiny fish. Well i did cheat by caching them and placing them in a small plastic jug so they were all corralled into a small area with little water in the way and lots of bright light, shooting fish in a barrel you could say ;-) They are about 3-4mm long at the ...

New picture

Well today's mission was to capture as many fry left in the tank and re-home them in the breeding net. So the shubunkin and comet were netted out into a bucket and all of the decor removed baring a few plants. Well it seems like the monsters have been feeding well as there was just one lonesome loac...

Poor choice of tank mates

I have to admit to coming into owning p. cheni blind, when my partner and I first set up this tank it was to house a shubunkin and sarasa comet. My first p. cheni were bought on impulse and it's only thanks to LOL after the fact that i have a couple of big powerheads to keep them happy. I never real...

Sinogastromyzon wui

The curses of going in to a fish shop to ask about a custom hill stream aquarium and finding the assistant who actually has an interest in the fish you want to keep! After going over my tank plans and rough cost estimates the conversation obviously shifted to stocking which in turn lead to Sinogastr...

Still none the wiser

Well as Martin said it looks like the p. cheni are quite able to work out whose who! http://dienyddio.com/~les/mini_loach.jpg Yes, i had quite a shock when i saw this little critter zipping around the tank yesterday. We had seen some eggs two weekends ago but never suspected anything would come of t...

Damp floors

the filter I was thinking of using was say capable of 5000litres an hour. It is a koi pond filter that some of the Pleco guys use well on the 8 foot tanks. They have huge bio loadings and can deal with it quiet well from what I have been told. I would be interested to hear more about your experienc...

Future dreams

I have been smitten by the hillstream bug but i'm not going to expand my collection beyond the p. cheni i have now until i have a proper habitat for them. As it is always nice to dream this is what i'm planning: http://dienyddio.com/~les/aquarium.gif This is based around a 4'x1.5'1.5' tank with some...

I'm currently living in Guildford. Not a bad part of the world if you can put up with the traffic :-)

Well that told me!

Thanks Martin, this just sums up all that is so great about this forum. Now i think i will have spend a good good couple of hours infront of the tank to work through that lot of information :-) Oh the suffering! The dance i'm seeing involves turning around nose to nose on a stone then backing tail f...
