If the q was addressed to me Ardillakilla - no, I have clocks that zero out at the first hint of a power outage and all were fine. Looking at Bigpow's post everything looked normal there too. I will never put the caves back and have rounded up some great (light) hollow logs for them. I was addressi...

Any evidence of a power failure, like clocks with their times off?

Since clowns live such a long time, they often end up dying in various tank disasters. I'm thinking of splitting mine up between several lightly stocked tanks to improve their odds of living to old age.

Fishyfarmacy is where I bought both products: http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/products2.html Their Kana Pro at $14 for 20 g is the cheapest option unless you buy 250 g for $150. I'm running low on kanamycin and will probably be placing an order soon myself. I remember the growth grew noticeably bigger o...

A friend of mine got ich' along with some plants. That wiped out most of his tank. He got UV after that and has had no more problems. I've used UV all the time and never had ich. I still quarantine though.

My money's on mycobacteria. Ubiquitous in aquaria and resistant to many antibiotics. It'll just laugh at Melafix and probably consume it for food. http://www.fototime.com/A5EBE6CF6EA43D2/orig.jpg That picture was taken two years ago and the fish is still alive today. That "growth" grew very, very qu...

Both of my acrylic aquariums have acrylic hoods and they haven't warped. If they were made out of thinner acrylic or subject to more stresses then I could see it happening. The cover for my wet/dry warped under the weight of all the hoses. It unwarped after sometime in storage though, saving me the ...

I've successfully treated many clown loaches with "skinny." For less severe cases, you can use Maracyn One and Two ( at the same time [/i]) at the recommended dose to 2X the recommended dose for two weeks. Change water every day and then add a new dose. For severe cases: kanamycin 0.15 g per 2.5 gal...

Take him to a vet. A state university's veterinary teaching hospital should be able to see any animal.

I guess it's just pure coincidence that people with UV don't have ich problems. Even on the reef forums, I read over and over again about how someone battled ich and it kept coming back then they got a UV sterilizer and that was the end of the story. So if UV and quarantining doesn't eradicate ich, ...

Mycobacteriosis article

http://www.atlasbooks.com/marktplc/00388mycoarticle.pdf MB (mycobacteriosis) is considered to be the number one chronic disease in aquarium fish. MB is responsible for about half of fish deaths due to unknown causes. Because MB often has no obvious or defining symptoms, hobbyists underestimate its p...

If you have a good quarantine procedure, you will reduce the chances of an ich outbreak. If you had a UV sterilizer, you could probably get away with not quarantining new fish. If you have a UV sterilizer and quarantine new fish, you will likely never, ever have to deal with ich again. Or you can li...

Re: Quarantine procedure for new fish.

-How long do you quarantine for? The last time I got a batch of small clowns, I kept them in a 40 gal tank by themselves for about half a year before putting them with my bigger clowns. I would do 1 month minimum, preferably 2 or more months with UV running to break the life cycle of any ich they m...

You're obviously better off buying non-skinny fish but chances are very good they've all been exposed so even if you buy very healthy looking fish, they can become skinny very quickly. Especially if your water quality isn't that great. Good water quality is still no guarantee though and since there'...

New water goes from my 7-stage reverse osmosis/DI filter into a 50 gal water storage drum where it usually sits for a few days and I remineralize it with Kent RO Right or equivalent. The first thing I do on water change day is vacuum the 125 gal cichlid tank. That water goes into an unused 40 gal aq...

im just gonna kickstart the cycle by transfering about 1/2 of my current fish tank water into the new tank. then add the usual bacteria starters/chemicals.
