Re: Lead tape, lead wire and high-lead solder

D- thanks. But the pebble-burial can't work, or at least isn't working. I'm not weighing down plants, but air-lines. They float well enough that they're turning out to be a nightmare to get to stay under the gravel, and I've not even got the fish or MTS in there yet. What are the modern plant-weight...

Lead tape, lead wire and high-lead solder

The best of the new year to one and all, yet, as always and as admittedly and unabashedly rude as it is, i only write when i need something.... When I was a yoot they sold a lead tape situation in 1 or 1.5" lengths for wrapping around the roots of your aquarium plants to weigh them down. I don't see...

Re: The God of all Loach Tanks...

To mount a Hydor Koralia powerhead in one of the tubes you'd get a master-blaster system for hillstreams... or anything else that's a bit athletic. Couldn't go with Botia-types as you'd need a million ramshorn snails to even start to keep it clean. Or maybe very small botia and a bunch of mystery sn...

Re: Aquarium safe paint

One of the 2-part Epoxys would be the way. Can also use some (heavy-duty) boat paints. Also think about adding a pigment to an Epoxy or Polyvinyl waterproof (boat) top-coat. It'll act like a paint, but be much much tougher. Stay away from Polyester resins- they aren't always as waterproof as you'd e...

observations for feedback- cleaning and ecosystems

Right, two things of late: a) added a marbled headstander who promptly ate all my plants and b) added 10 med & large mystery snails. Did a deep-sand gravel/sand vacuum yesterday and very little "crud" came up. Far (far, far) less then usual, at least. In part there was little/no plant bits, but ther...

Re: Loach ID?

So long as we're having a moan, I'd like to go on the record that I'm not keen on this new black-on-white format. I found that reading the white-on-blue was easier to read on my sunny balcony (as you poor northern folk freeze- HA HA HA) I'm actually being serious- i did like the other format, though...

Re: Wood: toxicity, rot and tannins

PS: I'm actually sitting with my carpenter right now- If anyone would interested in getting some of these pots made and shipped up (once these Beta-testing results come through) drop me a PM and I'll get you in touch. I think we might do some testing on other tree/wood species as well and sink them ...

Namal, Try something that's ridiculously/irrepressibly friendly/interactive like a couple of angels or danios. That and stop wearing the wearwolf mask when you feed them. Option #2, carry a camera when you come to the tank. For the rest of us the camera makes them scatter- you may be in luck and hav...

Blue/orange-fin (Y. modesta) get 10" or so- one of the bigger botia-types... though it probably takes a while. For all intents and purposes they are as big as clowns but are more boisterous so might need more space per inch/animal... and current. 90 should be good for a couple of years, but expect t...

Temperature raised to 82? Seems a little cool for a fish from Borneo/Sumatra. Slowly (over days/weeks) increase temp to >88 (31C). Clowns are fine with that, but the parasite is not. The increased temp will increase the cycling of the parasite bringing it to the chemical-susceptible stage faster, an...

I make my own- essentially wrap the central mesh post in foam or floss mat/geotextile or both. Water is crystal, is cheap, rinses easily but still clogs quickly, if not worse then before. The tinkering continues.... ps: I've never been satisfied with these Marineland canisters, but somehow I've mana...
