Re: Clown Loaches lost bright orange coloration

I wish I had an answer for you, I have 2 CLs that are not as old, and their orange looks a bit less orange than before. I thought it was my imagination, but maybe it's not.

Re: Does anyone make a good algae wafer?

I use the Omega Algae wafers too, I have used others in the past, but these seem to be a favourite in my tank.

Advice on Bullying?

I posted this same question on another forum, but I also wanted to get some insight from you all here: I have a single Guianacara sphenozona, that is 2-3 years old and about 6"long. I do not know if it is male or female, but I suspect it is male due to it's aggression toward tankmates. He will often...

Re: clown fish hideing

Jordan,
I think you have answered your own question. Clowns do like other Clowns to pal around with, and "dither" fish. My suggestion is to add some compatible smaller fish for the Clowns.

Re: I want to know about your lighting set ups!

Thanks for your insight KK. I ended up purchasing a 48" fixture with 2 high output T5s (1 Actinic and 1 10k Daylight) and 8 "moonlight" LEDs. I did not get the one that I have pictured in an earlier post, as it was cost prohibitive. This fixture seem to have what I want, and I spent just under $70 f...

Oh, ok so CO2 is pretty important then. I appreciate you spelling that out for me. Before I buy lights, I will also investigate a CO2 set up, thanks!

Re: I want to know about your lighting set ups!

When you step up your overall lighting for more plant growth, the higher plants have an increased CO2 demand. If you starve them for CO2, you'll end up with an effecient algae reactor. This is where the balance between plant nutrients comes into play with lighting and CO2. Then you have to adjust y...

Re: I want to know about your lighting set ups!

Thanks for your thoughtful response about the lights. I found a 48" that has 4CF tubes, and 4 blue-ish LEDs from an online retailer. I think I like it because it alows me the flexiblity that you suggested with each half of the tank with different lighting if I choose and the thing has a timer. The f...

Re: Clown Loach Fry.

Hi Steph - Welcome to Loaches on Line!

I have never heard of anyone with Clown Fry in aquaria, but I suppose it is possible. If you could capture the little one in a photo and post it, I think that would be helpful.

I want to know about your lighting set ups!

I am finally going to replace the tank lids and standard issue lights on my 55gal planted community tank. I have already decided to get All Glass Versa Tops, but I cant decide what kind of lights I want to get, or how they might look installed. I know I need about 2-3 watts per gallon, but I would l...

Re: The Sniff Test -- lessons learned

OMG! That is amazing!! Really nice save! I have had a few jumpers in the past, but usually got them while they were still wet and was able to scoop them up and back into the tank. I will keep the Sniff Test in mind if I find a jumper, thanks!

Q-tank question

I picked up a pair of fish from a local breeder and have them in my 10 gal Q tank since 9/12/10. I would like to move them to the 55gal community tank but dont want to move them too soon. So my question is how long do you keep fish in the Q-tank before moving them to their permanent home? I was thin...

You mentioned that your clown looks as if it was in a fight, and you mentioned that there was a clown fatality. Maybe there is a correlation between the two. I am just throwing that out there.

I don't have tons of experience either, I have only been keeping fish for 18 months
