Anchovies really do add wonderful, salty flavor...but it's generally better if I don't know they're in there also. Bristly little buggers unless they're pureed. Ken, I meant to tell you, I recently made your sauerbraten recipe, but with fresh onions, ginger puree (jar variety). Used brisket and mad...

It may be delicious but I could never eat it knowing there are anchovies in the recipe. Dead anchovies = fishing bait.

Do you know if your snapper is really rockfish? In the US, they're allowed to sell red colored rockfish as red snapper. I don't know if they have similar rules in Canada.

I'll have to give it another go, maybe. The sticking point for me is the level of contrivance. If everything is in place all along the way, what is the ultimate point of it? There's an initial leap because time travel doesn't and can't exist, but mental illness is very real. So we're expected to ac...

We've been enjoying a couple of HBO series on DVD. We finished Rome a couple of weeks ago and are most of the way through the first season of Deadwood. I recommended both although you may find yourself calling people cocksuckers a lot after watching Deadwood. :) I forgot to mention that the story o...

We rented Across the Universe last night. It took awhile to get going but turned out to be a worthwhile watch. Don't bother renting it if you don't have an appreciation for Beatles music.

I don't know if its been mentioned in this thread yet... But the lady made me watch Juno the other day... And surprisingly I thought it was a fantastic movie. My wife, my son and I all thought it was particularly boring. Not exactly bad but really boring. Some of the acting was very good but it was...

I finally saw Letters from Iwo Jima which I thought was very good. On the flip side, don't bother with Flags of our Fathers which really sucked, IMO. This probably goes without saying but if you rent Letters, promise to watch it with the Japanese soundtrack and subtitles. Dubbing works great for bad...

I think you'd have to be a hardcore Stargate fan to appreciate that movie. Most people wouldn't have a clue what's going on.

Simple Saurbraten This is the simple version and I love it as it is but if you're like Mark, you can use fresh ingredients instead of the dried/powdered stuff. 1.5 lbs lean round steak or sirloin 1 envelope brown gravy mix(makes 1 cup) 1 tb dried onions 1 tb brown sugar 2 tb red wine vinegar ½ tsp ...

I watched Godzilla 2000. Great film!

The last 2 lines in the movie were outstanding.

Scientist #1: We try to kill Godzilla, and he keeps defending us. Why is that?
Scientist #2: I think it's because there's a little Godzilla in all of us.

And Ken, 28 Weeks is worth a viewing - the special effects have some merits. There were just two or three weak points in the overall story. I didn't mean to say that I didn't enjoy it - just not as good as the first one. Of course. There is some minor (subtle and lowbrow) commentary on US imperiali...

I finally saw 28 Weeks Later... Meh... It has nothing on the first one, so goes the first law of horror film sequels. Some serious writing flaws, but reasonably tense. I presume they're working on the next one... That's too bad. I really enjoyed 28 Days and was hoping 28 Weeks would also be ...

Somebody I know who's very into movies....as in he's an extra and played a zombie in George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead ....told me The Illusionist is an inferior The Prestige . The latter rocks IMO. Martin. I liked the The Illusionist better than The Prestige. The Prestige was OK up to the point ...
