POWER OUTAGE BACKUP IDEAS

Hi again. My fish just made it through nearly 3 days with no air stone, heat, or filtration. I realized that battery air pumps are available and plan now on getting a backup system in place. The good news is that I performed several water changes to the tank during this time, and all inhabitants ha...

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

I have a 55 gallon with 6 med sized silver dollars and now 3 clown loaches, med sized. (I gave my 4th away to my local LFS. It continually harassed the silver dollars. Very strange). I also have ten cherry barbs. I read that Siamensis are territorial; better either one to an aquarium or several. Tha...

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

Fabulous pictures, and mine looks just like that. When I got it, he was as long as the cherry barbs; now he's surpassing the cherry barbs. :-)

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

Hi, there is no such thing as a 'true' C. siamensis since that name is a synonym of the mysterious Epalzeorhynchos siamensis . Arguably one of the most high profile cases of incorrect naming in the hobby given the popularity of the fishes involved. What you probably have is Crossocheilus atrilmes o...

Just Got a (True) Siamensis

Just added a Siamese Algae Eater to my 55 gallon tank and he's getting chased by a male cherry barb.

Hoping the SAE does a nice job on some brown algae I have on the plants.

Re: Vacation Feeders

These are a bit pricey, but they have always worked flawlessly for me. You can completely control what you feed and how much for each feeding . My fish get about half rations when I am away. http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10851/product.web Thanks, Keith. Yes that is pricey; I'm usually not a...

Diana wrote:Very important when you have a mixed tank that you do feed. Probably OK to cut the rations in half, or just feed a few times, but 6 days is enough to make the big fish eat the little fish.
That's how I feel, Diana. One size does not fit all in this case.

Either that or have someone feed them ONCE during your leave, and give them a vacumm sealed portion to give your fish to prevent overfeeding.
The big fish will be fine for six days, the little ones will disappear.

Re: Vacation Feeders

Bookpage, your link was helpful, thank you. No, there won't be anyone who will come into feed the fish, so that's why I want it taken care of before I go. I wouldn't mind letting the big fish go hungry for a few days (I will be gone for a total of 6)--I know it wouldn't hurt them, but I don't want ...

I thoroughly enjoyed these pics...I mean loved them. Love the planted tanks, and your eclectic array of fish. Two questions--what are the goby-eely like fish and what are the characin looking fish with the bright red finnage and steel blue bodies?

Fabulous pics.

I think your ten looks fab and I love that you're keeping small sized fish in there. Very smart.

That's awful. That happened to me too when I was a kid when the heaters weren't as stable as they are today. I woke up to cooked gouramis among others. I blamed my cousin Frankie for messing with the heater but to this day (we're 44 and 43) he swears he never touched it. Sorry for our losses. I woul...

***RIO AQUA PUMPS OR VIA-AQUA***

Hi.

Does anyone own Rio Aqua OR ViaAqua Pumps for filling and draining tanks? Does your Python cleaner fit into it? Does it allow for screw on attachments??

This is crucial info and I'd love some help--fast!

Thanks.
