Re: Buy an extra clown loach, yey or ney.

$25 seems like a very fair price. Clown loaches get pretty expensive once they get over 6 inches. About 8 years ago, I purchased a lone fat 6" clown for $40, which made him my largest clown in my tanks. He's been one of my most inquisitive/peaceful loaches too. He's grown a few inches since I got hi...

Re: Loaches more and more shy

Try feeding them smaller quantities, 3 or 4 times a day. A raw vegetable such as zucchini, a protein like chopped up shrimp, and some staple foods like Omega One Veggie Rounds, Sinking Kelp Pellets, Floating Cichlid Pellets, ect. You may need to dim the lighting for surface feedings. Just don't let ...

Awesome tank! Where are you located? If you live in the USA, Leslies Pool Supply is good place to get sand.

Re: Clown Loaches Brackish Water

It's highly unlikely, but I think it's possible for clown loaches to survive, if the water temperatures are high enough. I've seen clowns live in both African rift and brackish like conditions. Not that I recommend it. In my own experience, they seem quite adaptable and tolerate table salt (pure sod...

Re: Hello LOL. I've been lurking with my loaches :)

Very nice indeed. I'm using the same kind of lighting on my planted tanks. Awhile ago, I switched from from 55w cfl fixtures to these much cheaper Bayco Portable Work Lights that use the screw-in cfl's, and they seem to work really well. FYI, when using 23w cfls they seem to get overheated and burn ...

Re: The Loach Trap Project with lots of pictures

Nice job Keith!!! It might even work to some extent on other types of fish. Do you mind if I share this project on other forums? Yeah, it should work for many types of fish. You certainly can share this project. If anyone out there has some ideas on how to improve the trap, let me know, and forward...

I don't know the answers, but you probably should have started your own thread, instead using this old one. You may get more responses then.

Re: Where to get levamisole?

Levamisole hasn't been on the market for years. I think it was discontinued by many pharmaceutical companies due to that it was being used in cocaine drug trafficking industry. Most fishkeepers from what I've read are using a Fenbendazole (panacur) instead. I've never tried using it, so you'll need ...

Re: water temperature

My water temps change depending on the season. I don't want to make my heaters or air conditioners work too much.

Re: SURPRISE--MY CLOWN DIED

You would think an entire tank would suffer if it were experiencing the things you're all suggesting. Not necessarily. When problems are at subclinical levels, it usually just picks off the weakest fish 1st. Then when those subclinical problems multiply it becomes ever more taxing. A large tank tem...

Re: SURPRISE--MY CLOWN DIED

Sorry to hear it. Ammonia Alert meters are nice things to have when in doubt. They cost about $10 and last over a year if it's kept clean. I usually keep one on every tank.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Things have settled down here. I just moved the 15 loaches from the q-tank back to the main tanks. They all look fine and are getting their 1st meal in 5 days. Hopefully all the drama is over. One good thing that came out of this is that I did build a new handy PVC loach trap to catch and transport ...
