Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
Yes, they are beautiful but I guess some people go for the more aggressive type fish. Here is a photo of some fry I found in the canister. About 30 or so, different sizes. I just dumped the dish back into the main tank for the fry to fend for themselves. Most likely eaten by the panda garras I have:...

Re: Sewellia young
I am not sure where I read it but I remember someone mention that the spotted sewellias only spawn at night which I can understand why no one sees them spawn. They also mentioned that the spotted and lineolata will not spawn together but not sure if this is true as the speciosa and lineolata did. I ...

Sewellia young
Here is a short clip of a young sewellia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NzlyetcJco They keep surviving in my Aquatop filter. I never find any in my Eheim canister though. Has anyone seen their sewellia "spotted" spawn before? I've seen my lineolata spawn but not the "spotted" and am curious about ...

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
It is because no one local keeps or even knows about hillstream fish. Local hobbyists are more into cichlids and goldfish/koi which is why we have clubs for those types of fish only. I have been giving away some to my co-worker and selling some online. I just do not have time for shipping and stuff ...

Re: New Hillstream loaches.
I'm not sure about the others but the last one is a gastromyzon viriosus. The first one might be a g. zebrinus but not too sure. Jim usually knows his gastromyzons so hopefully he sees and replies to your thread. Great find though as the g. viriosus is hard to find in these mixed batches of gastromy...

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
Interesting. I may try that when I decide to give away more fry. Mine do eat zucchini but not as much as the Repashy I feed them. If I do not end up making the trap, I guess taking out all the rocks and stuff is the best way but I think I will wait until I get a big amount of fry/juveniles.

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
Thanks all. I just have a hard time getting the fry to swim out of the pile of rocks I have. When they get onto the glass, it is easy to get them into the net. I just hate moving all my rocks and driftwood to chase around the fry as it scares the adults. I was thinking of a trap or something but hav...

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
Hmm, not sure why but this time, the young fry were very easy to catch. Only used one medium net and did not have to move the rocks, driftwood, or plants. Caught 7 and thought I got them all but saw two smaller ones in the tank. Plus a baby assassin snail. Now, I just have to see how I am going to g...

Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
Mattyd, how long did the spotted sewellias take to start showing spots? I've been getting many fry in my tank but I am not sure which are lineolata and spotted. I've been giving them away to my co-worker so have no idea as I rarely see my co-worker to even talk about the fish now. Blackrosegul, I th...

Re: The Dream Tank Begins
In my opinion, hillstream loaches are better off being in a tank by themselves as the temperature range is different from the "tropical" fish in community tanks. I keep my loaches in the high 60s to about 72F/74F. I found that other fish will pick on the loaches and try to skin them. That's why I do...

Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
How do you catch them? I have always taken apart my whole tank, or most of it, to get all the fry or juveniles out, using two nets. I do not want to do that this time as I hate bothering the parents and other sewellias in the tank. Is there an easier way to catch them? I have about 10 babies to catc...

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Wow. I just love your photos of the gobies. It must be great to be able to see them in the wild. I wish more stiphodons were imported to the US.

Re: Identification goby help
^Is this type bred to have this pattern or is it wild caught? I am curious if this type has an official name yet.

Agree that both look like females. If you live in the US, Franksaquarium.com sells pairs if you are looking for them.

Re: Identification goby help
Panda loach (protomyzon pachychilus). I think when the fish get older, they will start to lose that color/pattern.
