Well, they're not cheap around here! I have a price from two places and they are $40 US from one place and $60 US from the other! That's a little high, but I'm still trying to decide. Are you outside of the US? If you don't want to say I understand. I live in Sweden. Are they really that expensive?...

Very nice Pleco. I'll have to look this one up. Most of my algae seems to be brown, so he would probably work well in my tank. :) Yeah check them out! They are pretty cheap as well, around here they cost the same as a Gibbi, and they're pretty cheap. They won't get as big as Gibbiceps either, but s...

We have a Pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus. It's absolutely nuts about brown algae, but not so much green. I does like algaewafers though. It gets along fine with all our critters, which are some clowns, kubotais, angelfish, bala sharks, spotted raphs, some hillstreams, and yoyos. http://i283.photobuc...

I'm very sorry for you Emma, Marge was truly a magnificent fish. I just sank like a stone when I read the title to this thread. :(

That's great news!! Is the temperature staying down? Sometimes. Today we've managed to keep it pretty stable around 25-26, so there's hope. It appears that we have a leak in the front-door to the appartment were there's a radiator (electric), and I have a theory about it. Since we shut that one off...

The patches are fading away! :D All of them are fine except one, but but that one is fading as well! We've treated with Sera Bactopur if anyone is interested. We'll do another cycle of it as soon as our ich-cycle is complete. We haven't seen any spots, but Hanna saw two of the yoyos flashing, so we ...

And yes, it's normal for them to swim upside-down when feeding from the surface. Their mouths are downward-facing, which makes surface-feeding harder. Ours have not been swimming upside down, but they usually point their snouts to the sky and munch down the flakes.

It will indeed. I don't want to think about summer right now, my guess is that we'll have a hard time keeping everything cool.

The fan trick worked! Now we're down to 25* with the windows open and a large fan standing on the tank, blowing hard on the surface. All fish except the hillstreams are fine. They (not hillstreams) seemed distressed when the temp crawled to 30, but at 28* they're fine. The hillstreams usually comes ...

We feed ours brine shrimp, freeze-dried tubifex, zucchini, Sera Vipachips, flakes, and a lot of other things as well. They really love the tubifex, more so than any of the foods we offer them. We also collect snails from an LFS a little now and then as a treat.

I might just try that. I'll give it a go tomorrow I think. We've also started leaving the window slightly open and we've closed both doors in to the room so the air-temperature is pretty low in there. We're also only using one of the ramps (there are 4 lights, but we're only running 2).

The heater is, and have been disconnected since we added the fish basically. I can't understand it, the ambient room temp is lower than the water temp! Then again, like you said, pumps will heat the water along with lights, etc. But why does the temp want to climb to 30?

We still can't manage to lower the temperature, so the plan right now is to do more, but smaller changes every week, say 3-4 10% changes per week so we can get in cooler water. This is turning in to a pain in the be-hind.
