Good point Mistergreen but in this case I don't think that is the answer. The loaches were caught in these two small ponds which are cut off from the lake behind by a few metres. The water is only a couple of feet deep in the middle of the ponds and I took plenty of scoops without finding a single a...

Cheers guys. :) Diane M. fossilis is the European species but these are definitely not that one. The reason I mentioned not catching any adults is that there were loads of them at this size. Every scoop of the net was turning up 4 or 5 fish...weird... http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/Seriousl...

These are some of the other fish I caught whilst looking for the Aphanius (netted at 4 localities in all). The first pic is of a female Gambusia . The introduction of these buggers is one of the main reasons the Aphanius are in such sharp decline. The second two I have no idea about. Mick suggested ...

Thanks Emma, the URL for the English version is (no giggling please): http://www.fartet.org/index1_in.htm The website only deals with the Spanish species but the guys that run it are also involved in breeding endangered Aphanius from other countries, too. I'm getting groups of a Turkish species and ...

Thanks for all the kind words guys! :D I used to do these kind of trips a lot in England a few years back but being in a new place has really rekindled my interest. I realise I'm very lucky to be doing this and am planning to get out and about as often I am able. I will of course share on LOL when r...

That is a fantastic-looking tank Janne. 8) I concur with Mick. The set-up I kept mine in was absolutely packed full of rocks and pebbles and the only time the Schistura would venture into open water was at feeding time. I could however observe them moving around the network of tunnels and covered ar...

Lovely greedy Botias Mick, and I like the barbs and Pristolepis too. 8) What´s the species in the top right of the first pic and bottom right of the third? Such a sleek looking fish! Did all the new boys settle in alright by the way?
