this is no good, plaalye! Most of mine fattened right up after levamisole, so I'm really hoping they stay that way. I never thought my sids were going to make it - they were little swimming skeletons, but they did pull through. did yours start off fat and get skinny, or did they fatten up and then g...

Diana, I'm not sure I can get them back out of the tank at this point, but I'll try. It was dumb of me to transfer the whole group in the first place, but I was thinking that since the savonas were the only fish in there, it wouldn't be much different from the Q tank, and it might be a healthier, mo...

Fattening up Schisturas

I moved my Schistura savonas out of quarantine and into a new tank yesterday, and now I'm second guessing myself. They've all been through at least three rounds of levamisol (I got 6 at first, then another 6 later from the same person, so some have had six treatments, and some have had 3 treatments)...

I second The Wet Spot - what a great store! We have nothing like that in the Southeast.

Good on you for rescuing the fish - unbelievable that someone would just throw them out!

Sids are expensive everywere. Your best bet if to find them in a shop that can't get rid of them and make an offer to clear them-it does work  Ashleigh That's how I got my first six. The manager said they predated him! Got them for $11 each, while most other stores were charging $30. I bought...

hi soul-hugger, The best suggestion I have for you is to get rid of your gravel. A lot of people use Flourite or regular old potting soil, covered up with pool filter sand. Or just straight pool filter sand (though if you have root-feeding plants, you'll need to add root fertilizers). In these two t...

I looked him up and I do see the resemblance! Funny thing - I hadn't heard of Eric until you mentioned him. Turns out he spoke at our local club a few years ago - people were just talking about him today at our meeting! Small world ;)

chefkeith, I've been doing more than my share of freaking out too. I've been hovering between amazement and mortification. mickthefish - from left to right: Phil, a local planted tank guy who introduced me to Amano; Tomoko, Amano's translator (holding my cat Oliver); Amano; then me; then my husband ...

Thank you everyone! The whole experience was a little surreal  soul-hugger, it didn't take too long to amass the loaches - just a couple of years. Half the sids were local, and the other half I ordered from Frank's Aquarium. The pangios were a mixture of random finds at local stores, rehoming...

loach tank pictures

I haven't posted much lately, so I thought I'd like to show a little update on my loach tanks. Here's my 55 gallon. I've tried to redo it to be more river-like, with added filtration and a bit of a current, and with lots of hiding places. The sids and rasboras love it! They are always busy exploring...

Ok, thanks Diana, that's along the lines of what I was thinking. I probably won't go full river tank, partly because I have trouble keeping tanks below 80F anyway. Had to replace my glass tops with screens this summer, and put fans on timers! I'll look into some of the danio species, but I really li...
