setting up a tank for schistura savona

I have six of these little ones in quarantine right now, so I need to start thinking about setting up a permanent home. I was thinking of putting them in my 55 with sids and rasbora espei, but I wanted to hear what people thought first. I know once they're in there, it will be nearly impossible to g...

plaaya, I dug through and found your post about the savona. They do look exactly like mine, and I'm so excited about them now!

I was very nervous about buying them without knowing what they were, but it sounds like I made a good decision.

Thanks Thomas! Do you think these would get on well with y. sidthimunkis? I have decent flow in that tank, but I also have a powerhead I could add for more movement.

Dwarf Banded Loach - ID please?

I just picked up 6 loaches at our local club meeting, but I have no idea what they are. Has anyone heard of a dwarf banded loach? perhaps from India? They're about 1 - 1.5 inches total length. sorry for the blurry - these guys won't sit still! I'll try again tomorrow. http://img.photobucket.com/albu...

I did this in my kuhli tank, just like Diana suggested. I used eco-complete on the back half of the retaining wall, and pool filter sand on the front half. The kuhlis are equally active on both sides of the wall, but they only burrow in the sand (I don't think they can in the eco-complete). They als...

Maybe your new sids will train the older ones? I recently got a new batch of young sids, and they didn't seem to be eating the snails I would give them while in quarantine. After a few weeks with the bigger guys (who LOVE snails), they were all actively seeking out the snails. Like everyone says tho...

That's crazy about the glass! I bought glass tops and had to have them cut down a little because the measurement was inexact. I took them to a hardware store, and told them what it was and why I needed it, and they just said 'cool.' I asked if they could smooth the glass a little, but they weren't a...

The profile should be correct. I keep mine at 78F. http://www.franksaquarium.com is a great source for loaches if you're in the US. If you add your location to your profile, people might be able to give you more location-specific advice for sourcing them. I don't think there are any wild-caught sour...

Hi DJRansome, I like the smaller loaches best too :) I'm not sure what size your tank is, but I have twelve y sidthimunki (dwarf chain loaches) in a heavily planted 55. They won't harm your plants, and they love to eat snails. Provided your tank is large enough, your set up sounds fine to me. I thin...

I do really like them. I don't have the ones you're talking about though, I have the cheaper version that's only 3/4 watt, and don't have the flexible arm . Mine come with clips to hook them onto the coralife fixture, but I couldn't figure out how to make that work. I wanted the lights at an angle, ...

I use coralife's LED moonlights, mounted on hinges so I can adjust the angle, siliconed to the edge of the tank (it's not as tacky as it sounds - I'll take some pictures when I'm home). A friend of mine has blue Christmas lights strung up inside the canopy. I haven't seen it in use though.. I need t...

I remember this discussion a while back about larger fish not eating loaches because of a toxin they secrete. I'm not sure if that's all loaches... it seemed like the consensus was that no one really knew what it was.

I've noticed very few snails in my kuhli tank as opposed to other tanks which are full of them. A few weeks ago, I put them into a new bigger tank that had a booming snail population, and it seems to be much more under control now. I've never seen them actually go after snails, like the other loache...
