Re: Tank background ideas
Seems the back to nature stuff must be made from unobtainium. £500 quoted from those who were unable to get a price from them. Their distributor thoroughly unhelpful. Tried TMC who recommended an outfit in Poland. Outfit in Poland have had two days and still no price, no leadtime. Amazing that spend...

Numpty UV question
I'm sure this is a daft one but..Should I let my new tank run up for a while before using a UV steriliser? My rationale is thatif the steriliser does kill off bacteria surely it also kills off the good stuff that presumably meanders around the tank when it's not in the filter? Could someone please e...

New tank now in place awaiting plumbing up. The fish are completely unaware..
Something like 187 US gallons less a bit for the weirs, plus a bit more for the filters when they go in.

Re: Tank background ideas
I like the cork idea. Might investigate further. I like the look of rocks attached to the rear of the tank, not so 1 dimensional but kind of permanent, precludes further rearrnagement of the tank rather. I'mn starting to think cork at the rear, rocks piled up in front of that and sand substrate. I'v...

Tank background ideas
Has anyone seen or had any experience with tank backgrounds? I'm thinking about the likes of Juwel rock http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/motive_ ... one494.htm but I can see it getting pricey on a large tank.
Any suggestions please?

Re: New tank planning
Thanks for the link, very interesting. I like your tank. I have a skittish silver shark and he can find sharp edges even where they don't exist. One of the reasons for getting a larger tank is so he and the clown can have some more company. So I'm looking for a more bogwood rounded stones environmen...

Re: New tank planning
Well it's time to resurrect this thread! I've placed the order for the new tank, deposit down etc. It's roughly 6x2x2 but longer and wider by a number of inches. It'll run from wall to wall in my room. I'll have a UV steriliser, two Fluxal Fx5s and a large eheim running through the UV which will pro...

Re: deltec NFP509 nitrate reactor
I'll keep doing what I'm doing then. I've all but automated water changes with plumbed water to the tank an a plumbed drain too planned.
I've never gone as far as a very fine filter with my clowns though so that might be worth a thought. Many thanks

Re: deltec NFP509 nitrate reactor
Hi Chefkeith, thanks for the reponse. No good reason. I was originally planning a refugium for a few reasons but I've alot of gear under the tank so space is getting tight. I've now binned both ideas. I'd never considered trying to measure DOCs or suspended solids. How would you go about measuring t...

What's the secret to keeping neons?
I never have had much success with neons. They seem to get fungal infections then pine away. A few basic questions then: 1) What temps do they prefer? 2) How many shouldd you keep at at time? 3) o they o ok with other tetras? 4) What is the staple diet / frozen food combo 5) Do they differ much from...
