Re: Mystery Loach

I'm assuming that the fish is somewhat washed out due to the stress of capture, but I'm plumping for Syncrossus helodes based on what I can see of the angle of the stripes. Does it ever have vertically oriented, dark oval spots on the belly? http://www.loaches.com/species-index/syncrossus-helodes ht...

You should check out these articles if you didn't already: http://www.loaches.com/articles/sexing-and-breeding-pseudogastromyzon-cheni My present Pseudogastromyzon cheni are something like 4th or 5th generation. I haven't bought any in years. http://www.loaches.com/articles/breeding-sewellia http://...

Re: Bought A New Discus Today

A new pic of the new guy. He started eating Bloodworm a couple of days ago. They always seem to be reluctant to eat after moving into a new tank.

Re: External Filter

Hmmmmm..........never heard of these before. Externally, it looks like a rip-off of the Classic Eheim design. What it lacks is the advantage of having a lift out media basket. For ease of maintenance I have always preferred filters with lift out internals. I like the old style Fluvals and the Rena F...

Re: moving coast to coast

When I moved from England to Canada I had the advantage of moving the fish before I came here permanently and having them housed by an experienced fishkeeper (my new wife.....now ex) in established aquaria. I got regular fish shipping boxes from a local fish shop and packed the fish double or triple...

Re: Heres some new loach video (10ft tank)

Beautiful fish and fabulous tank. Those Fire Eels are very healthy looking. Only criticism I have is that rock looks highly calciferous and therefore may adversely affect the water hardness in time.

Re: why can’t I get my water crystal clear

I think that fain is correct here based on the appearance of that water. If the bogwood was not boiled or has not previously been used in an aquarium this is exactly how the water tends to look. Activated Carbon placed in one of the filters should remove it in a couple of days.

Moenkhausia collettii

Picked up another of these for less than $2 today. I have another that also came in as an odd-ball mixed with another species. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u88/Martin_Thoene/Next%202500/IMG_9782800x600.jpg This is the one I've had for months. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u88/Martin_Thoen...

Bought A New Discus Today

Today we went out to check out the Chinese shops north of the City of Toronto that always have nice Discus. Picked up this beauty at a 25% discount to replace one I had that suddenly died a few weeks ago for no obvious reason. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u88/Martin_Thoene/Next%202500/IMG_9756...

Re: Why are my red tail botias fighting?

Yasuhikotakia modesta can be a fairly aggressive loach at times. As Nancy said, this is almost certainly an inter-group dominance thing. Each group of Botia type loaches has a dominant fish and depending on the age of your fish this may be the first sign of the setting of a pecking order or a chall...

Well I'll say Gastromyzon based on the Borneo location, but I've never seen anything like those. Think you could be correct on Neogastromyzon for the slender one Jim. They're certainly all very beautiful and desirable species. There is such a wealth of interesting species out there. It amazes me as ...

You'll probably find that spot becomes more defined as the fish matures. It's very typical in a fish with the third stripe shaped as in this fish.

Fabulous fish, including the Dempseys.
