Re: Poor appetite help

I found that study too. I thought it would be harder to find, I'm not always the best searcher. It was interesting but only involved 15 clown loaches. If importers routinely treat fish wouldn't all the fish in the study be parasite free? I'd think they wouldn't want to pay for a possible infection t...

Re: Poor appetite help

redshark I wasn't trying to pick a fight, far from it. I would love to read an actual study rather than our hobbyist's usual of "in my experience" or " I've read" about a given idea. I can only claim those as reasons for most of the ways I treat my fish I have over many years. Many of those come fro...

Re: Poor appetite help

hamfist, what country do you live in? I have treated new loaches of several species with levamisole in quarantine for new fish. It seemed to help with some groups of loaches. I have also used flubendazole ( not fenbenazole that must be fed in food) with good results. Have you tried any live foods? I...

Re: 75 g clown loach tank - stocking (HELP)

Yeah, since the last post was 15 years ago I bet they've worked out the stocking.

I think you must be new on LOL, welcome. Tell us about your tank & fish. Maybe post pics when you can, we'd love to see!

Re: couple of questions... i need answers ASAP!!!

Neither of those behaviors sound scary to loach keepers, it's what they do, lol. I hope you have a large tank & several of each species for loach happiness,

Re: Loach comes over and turns upside down?

There were native Carolina parakeets (conures) in the US but the were hunted to extinction by farmers for their crop damage. All gone by 1939. There are several colonies of many bird species not native here including in very cold places like Chicago if you're familar with US geography. I would be ca...

Re: Loach comes over and turns upside down?

My Reggie was a Quaker (monk) parakeet I adopted when I did wild bird rehab many years ago. He was "wild caught" but I think he was someone's escaped pet. After a week or 2 we knew he wasn't able to be released into a Quaker flock, his wing damage was too much for him to keep up with them. But he co...

Do you have a guess as to what loach species Reggie is? I don't I'm sorry to say...Pictures? 14 inches is pretty darn big...I don't know Everyone likes a petable fish, LOL, especially us loach lovers! Well, I want to know! What species is Reggie? Take your best shot! I had a pet bird named Reggie......

Re: Powerhead for Roma 200L

I have a couple Maxijet powerheads (1200 l/h? I think) that I've used & an AC that is reversable but I don't recall it's model # both are quite reliable.

In the US we don't use internal filters very often so I think you're not where I am...

Re: How much to feed please?

I had trouble with "10mg" of food too. Euro metric weight is not a measure I can relate to very well. I can do some linear measurements more easily. But like I said, it's a learning curve for you & your fish. I don't feed every day & my husband feeds a bit more than I do...If teaspoons are an easier...

Re: How much to feed please?

I feed my sewelia most days with Repashy Soilent Green. They eat some other foods too but not very much. I'm not sure how to describe the amount. Call it a cubic "shallow" square, like maybe a 1/4 inch x 1/8 inch?? flat for 6 fish? But that might be a bit big for what I'm trying to describe...It's a...

Re: Any Loach or Fish Pathology Researchers Out There?

It could also be he's lost the herd loving loachy feeling? Like swans & some old people?, they're too set in their ways to be happy with new mates/tank mates that they don't know or that may be too "busy"? I lived in DE for years & we had hard water (think Limestone as a name part for almost everywh...

Re: Clown Loaches now 29 years of age.

Yes, there have been a few old clowns after many years on LOL. Basil comes to mind...Albert, & of course Marge... But your Athina might be more! (older) & a few others are the current record holders...for now. I'm always hoping for more! I miss my clowns! But I'll not be setting any records...I'm ol...

Re: Any Loach or Fish Pathology Researchers Out There?

I don't have any answers, or even thoughts. I know Mike Ophir used to do some fish studies as a grad student back in the day (mostly zebra danios I think, the "usual lab fish"). I don't know if he does fish anymore, I met him in MA ~20 years ago...A nice, knowlegeable man (young at that time, lol). ...
