I have a gravid M. pulcher (I'm not convinced on the ID here) with three similar fish that are not gravid - males? In the river tank, they are fairly busy, chased around by the rubidipinnis loaches, but the female has a definite sheltered spot that she's camped out in. I wonder.... I just imagine lo...

That is massively cool, Emma. That's probably the first evidence we have of distinctive behaviour in this species - at least in the tank.

Great stuff.

A flattering shot of one skunk

http://www2.2cah.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10018/IMG_5920.JPG I like these loaches. I added three, on Nonn's advice, to my two. Heavy business in the loach tank. I've added some more shelters, but now I disrupt the intended planting.... Urgh. Once more I must upgrade to a larger tank and again ...

Use one chopstick - if you have one around... You'd be surprised. Once you drain off the liquid, the food is very easy to pick up and drop in. That said, you may want to hybridize with some of the other techniques. Once the food is drained, add some tank water to the shot glass and use a turkey bast...

Hendra - where are you?

Someone has been posting photos on Coppermine of a very nice river tank set up, with excellent photos of the Gastromyzon populace. Some other fish are visible in the shots - Schistura? Micronemocheilus? Whoever you are, please unmask yourself. You have a great river tank! Three powerheads!

Jerry - instead of adding tapwater and the gunk the food is packed in, just sit the shot glass in a larger shallow bowl of hot water. The food will melt, and you can tip the glass to drain out most of the liquid. At that point I use a chopstick to gather up the food and drop it in the current. It ma...

They just come from the wrong part of the world for water like that. There may be some species out there that would thrive, but not the common ones that turn up in the shops, IMO. Water like that could be great for some cichlids. There are amazing fish that will suit your water, and that might be th...

To have any real long term success with B. dario, you're going to want to work on your water somehow. They really deserve to live in small groups and five is perfect - I only have three, but they interact amongst themselves more than most Botias except for clowns - if you count clowns as Botia. I am...

Sorry - I don't get this... The worms were parasites? Or were they part of your prazi treatment? What happens when the fish eat the worms?

Sounds like a dramatic effect, either way.

I realize that I had inferred that you were new to loaches. Sorry about that. My intentions for new loach people who might read the exchange is intact, but I did not mean to be condescending. I'll still thaw my cubes...

We would need a bit more information to give you any direction. What size is your tank? How many loaches? How many have died? Do you have any left? What's your water like? Hardness and pH? How often do you change the tank water and in what amount? What food have you been feeding the fish, and how of...
