I'm going to try sand too. The pool guys left an extra bag so I've been trying to convince my husband it's a good idea for at least part of a tank, he's very skeptical. We had some very small light weight gravel once that was a PITA to clean. So I showed him this post & a couple others. Now to put s...

That's great news, ey! :D I keep my clowns at 80F, a little low to some, I think 82F is preferred by most people. The yo-yos can handle 82F I think although it's at their high end they are hardier fish & should be fine. The sterbai I don't know about, try planetcatfish.com, some cories don't like hi...

You know you have to keep treating at least 3-4 days AFTER the spots are gone don't you? Otherwise it just comes back. Here's a site that explains the ich life cyclehttp://www.caloriesperhour.com/fish/notes_ich.html

Maybe a different approach could be showing governing authorities that there needs to be another category, semi-tropical or such. Not a breeding escape threat although proving a negative is difficult. Excuse my ignorance, isn't 10C appx 50F? Where in the UK does it not get colder than that at least ...

Oh, I see your fish list now & vote definite NO to skunks with them. Platy & mollie would definitely be targets. A species tank sounds like a good idea. BTW how do your flounders do in there? We had a small one once that even placid fish like platies would nip just to see it jump. Poor thing had no ...

I'm trying to post a pic but I'm a techno-idiot & not sure I figured out coppermine, it's not there yet :? Any hints? Also it's been more like 2 months from the date on my pic, I remember thinking I'd try posting after getting DSL... The discolored spot doesn't look any smaller now. It never ...

I agree with Emma. Years ago we kept 2 but could not find suitable tankmates even though they were only about 1.5 inches. They relentlessly chased smaller fish, fin-nipped any & all fish, causing some giant danios' suicide jumps. They went for the gills of blue acaras & firemouths (cichlids) & even ...

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a 1mmx2mm dark spot along the "jaw line" of 1 of my sids. I think I may have bumped the log he was hiding behind while gravel washing, it's about the size of the gravel  . He seems to be his normal. frisky self but I thought he should be healing by now. Have I marke...

I meant gill flukes & anchorworms being visible & causing bloody, slimy gills. I really do think your fish had ich in the gills that caused the rapid breathing, it's an easy area for ich to attack & you can't see it, at least not easily. As for the wardley's ickaway, I wonder if it was meant to be u...

ey I'm sorry for your loach's death. My malachite is old & says 0.75%. I did a brief web search & did not see mention of the Wardley's ickaway except in forums so maybe it has been discontinued or something. I agree it's very odd the concentrations are so different, maybe why it said once a week? I'...

YOU"VE ONLY BEEN TREATING ONCE A WEEK??!! Sorry I needed to yell, I guess I missed that part. You have not been getting rid of the ich, just watching it go through it's life cycle. I'm sure thats the problem. Here's a good explaination of it http://www.caloriesperhour.com/fish/notes_ich.html Hope th...

My malachite green (no formalin) says every other day, 1 drop/gal, 1drop/2gal for loaches & tetras. The water changes are to reduce the cysts in the gravel & free swimming stage & because treatment can damage the "good bacteria".( Bottle says once a week as a preventative, not a good idea IMO, just ...

ey, I, too, am sorry your loach died. I've heard that very small clowns are more fragile & difficult to acclimate. Is your other ill one & healthier ones all from the same lfs tank & time? How long have you had them? I'm thinking at only an inch probably not too long? Maybe the stress of shipping, g...
