Re: How to clean sand substrate ?
I've personally found cleaning sand to be easier than gravel. Quickly move over the top, it will grab up the waste while only getting the lightest of the sand. Pull the siphon away and let the sand fall away back to the bottom. Repeat. Sure you'll get a little bit of sand, but seems like keeping it ...

Re: Moving and Quarantine
Hate to play devils advocate here, but Dr. Tim's failed me. SeaChems Stablity cycled my tank almost instantly (24 hours). Kept up with the recommended dosing and my new tank is rocking. I would not recommend Dr. Tims.

Re: PHOTOS
I should add I did some big water changes while the cycle was going on, 50% or so every few days while dosing with Seachem Prime. I wanted to dose more ammonia but didn't. Slowly added fish over the course of a few days, while testing tank perimeters. Everything is running smooth. Still on hunt for ...

Re: PHOTOS
Don't want to play devils advocate here but my fishless cycle took only a few days once I started adding SeaChem Stability. Dr Tims One and Only did not work for me. I posted about it in another thread but here is the quick and dirty of it, summarized. Dosed Dr. Tim's ammonia to 2ppm (i trust any st...

Re: Can I get a hillstream loach?
The hillstream loaches are cool, no doubt about it. I've stayed away from them knowing full well they appear to need a diet not composed of what we feed, but what your tank simply produces as part of the ecosystem. As you mentioned they also love current, and without it they are out of their "comfor...

Re: Help with stocking my new tank
I'm a big fan of the polkadots - kubotias as most know them. Not sure how they'll do with clowns thought as I don't keep them. I my opinion, no loach is as beautiful as the kubotias.

I'm still temped to add 3, despite my 125 gals tank being on the upper end of their preferred temperature zone.

Re: Well rounded loach diets.
I think that's where my thinking is wrong. Seems like clowns love veggies and that is why I think I've giving too much meat to my loaches. No clowns in my tank. I feed Omega One flakes in the morning but in the evening I feed brine shrimp and/or bloodworms. Algae wafers just seems to get pecked at, ...

Well rounded loach diets.
For whatever reason while making lunch yesterday I put a small piece of cooked shrimp into my 125. The loaches went after it was like it was candy!! Sure they love bloodworms and brine shrimp, but "real" shrimp made them go bonkers! What they didn't eat I removed that night, but I've never seen a sh...

dojo/weather loach question
Been looking at these a bit, friends of mine highly recommend them. What I can't seem to find is if they require schools or if they prefer to be alone? Thinking about adding a few to my 125 but not really sure how they'll interact with the loaches I already have. Lastly, are the golden ones albinos?
