New tank - fish now in residence

Thinking of buying a large tank for xmas. Need one really. Its mainly for clowns 6, barr a silver shark and three tiny zebra loach. I have room for a 6x2x2' at the moment but I have concerns regarding maintaining it. Specifically; How best to arrange an 'in the living room' drain to deal with water ...

For what it's worth, and it's obviously a bit late; Protozin has a really nasty piece of small print. The main instructions say to use X so much of the stuff per litre. Then the small print says to only use half this IF you're not using undergravel filtration. Worth bearing in mind. I also vaguely r...

Bought - Aquaray controller plus grobeam tiles for loaches

Just to say I've just bought these and am very pleased with them. I had to turn them down to 50% as the loaches didn't like the brightness. they give sunrise and sunset effect which runs from 0-100% programmable. Mine's set at 1 hour to reach 100% and the same for sunset. When you water change you c...

I've only three zebras. They seem to strike up a nice relationship with my clowns, all get on well. The zebras like the flow and play in it

" I know the Loaches are bottom dwellers, and probably won't stir up the sand too much."

Don't you believe it. Mine dig around near my filter intakes and push sand into the filter becasue of it. I have to ensure that only rocks are nearby the intake to avoid this.

as per Nancy D, I find that if you move the end of the vacuum fast across above the the sand you lift the debris which both highlights it and makes it easier to suck away.

Staple is FGP deworm and earthworm flake plus cichlid floating, cichlid growth and small cichlid pellets. At weekends they get cucumber, and frozen food: bloodworm, mix, daphnia, chopoed cockles/mussels/greenfood.

Also fed; JMC catfish pellets + massivore delice + tetra prima in that order.

I tied lead strip around it in a loop, I pushed the sharp end of the strip pushed into the ends of the cob much like you might with cucumber. I would put small sections in next time, they left the skin of the corn which heads straight for your filter and needs hoovering out when you're done. It is f...

Can't help you on age, I don't know how old mine were when I got them. I would say that if you only have two, they'll get fairly quickly miserable. I had five, lost two and the remaining three weren't happy until two morewere added and happier still with 7 total.

Might be worth asking if the hollow ornament is large enough. I had some bamboo which wasn't big enough inside. Fish would head in, followed by others. If the others didn't want out, the ones inside didn't seem to be able to get out either. Some would have to reverse out and would get trapped in the...

If my experience is anyting to go by, get yourself a powerhead of some sort. They'll all be out once the flow is increased. Bet your tank is largely still.

Clowns like it. I think I could have doubled the output though from their perspective. I wouldn't think angels would be very happy with it though.

A side effect is that the anubis I have is now dying with the higher flow rates.

Well I'm not sure where you're based but I would think an internet search would turn it up. Have you tried looking for levacin or the like yet. If you're stateside I get the impression it's easier to obtain
