mikev: I had a BN and he died. Very sorry to hear this. Besides, all he did was hide in the cave. So does mine, but first he really polished the tank. Since I have not seen any algae coming back, I assume he prefers to work at night. Everyone says these 3-4 inch fish won't go in a 20 gal. Why? I'm ...

should i simply take the clowns back or take back another fish and get another clown? I don't think anyone can answer this, only you. Who is Nemo? If you choose for loaches, here are some candidates for another tank: Ram --- I don't know what you got, but some of them need Ph>7.0, while Loaches are...

He is actually not an albino, but what is called amelanistic (or hypomelanistic, I kind of prefer the first term.). The difference is the eye color, his are black, not red. Still, the same logic applies: it is a recessive gene (at least in reptiles, so must be in fish too), so it the 3rd generation ...

He's beautiful :) Thank you! I'll tell Albert you said this. (Actually he is even better than the picture shows: the unpainted segments are now gray at all, they are of the "meat color". The face does indeed have a bit of melanin.) I can see why you want to breed him. Uhu. And the hope is that some...

Can't get a dojo, had to have a friend in the north to get the one yoyo for me and ship it in. Ended up being very expensive as well. Around here there is a chinese supermarket that sells dojos *by weight*. There is also a fs that right now has a plenty of yoyos...I can ask if they would be willing...

Graeme, Thank you very very much! This sounds bad, especially the 3 males to 1 female ratio. The problem is that the khuli I'd like to breed is almost certainly a male. This is the fellow: http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/4075/albert9ol.jpg Would it be ok if I outline my thinking on this for you t...

It is not just about overcrowding, it is also about keeping the fish happy -- much better to have fewer kinds in the right numbers. If a fish feels lonely, it would not behave normally; and then what is the point of looking at it, since you would be seeing an abnormal behavior? My clowns come out to...

Jim, thanks a lot, you taught me a lot here. I will try biospira -- why miss on the new good stuff -- but still only with the fishless cycling. Probably I'm insane and paranoid, but I actually want to see the tank digesting a good dosage of ammonia before any live fish goes in. You simply never know...

Usually Polka-Dot means these guys: http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia_sp_myanmar.html Scientific names: Botia kubotai (new), Botia Angelicus (old). If these are the ones, 2"-3" makes them subadults. These guys are generally not too aggressive but like most loaches would be nervous initially...

i'm thinking about adding a polka dotted one if i can ever find one Possibly it is not a very good idea. Firstly, you already have quite a lot for a 30g; secondly, if you really must add another loach, it should be of the same species as you already have---will make them feel better. Any kind of sh...

I'm glad I was helpful. Without a shadow of a doubt; even if I cannot do it right now, I understand the essentials now. Thanks a lot. 20L : sorry for being dumb, I spent too much time on sites where "L" means a "liter". On bacteria: I did commit this crime too (relied on the CYCLE and hurt some fis...

Jim, Thanks a lot for the very on-target answers. Could you confirm that "20L" is not a typo? (e.g.20G) I *may* have a shortcut if 10G is big enough (need to think this through yet). On Schistura: one of mine below http://www.fishforums.net/uploads/post-1791-1136909657.jpg This is almost certainly n...

Most certainly, try the flakes and experiment with different brands of pellets. And don't worry about clicking: with mine it started at about 2.5". Some other loaches click even louder...my 1" yoyos do this on the surface when eating flakes. And Clown-Tiger Barb combination may be interesting; they ...

OK, it is Gastromyzon punctulatus most certainly, looks like 40-50 of them and healthy (for now). I'm highly tempted...probably will restrain myself *this round*, but just in case: what is the minimal suitable environment for these guys? 15g-20g? 2 powerheads? Hopefully, does not need to be planted,...
