Yeah, like I said my loaches have been fine with the flourite. But they cant shovel around in it or burrow, which I am sure they'd like to do. But no signs of any barbel erosion or belly scratches. I got mine from petsolutions.com which is in Ohio, but they were on sale at the time. Some other place...

I don't really like putting anyone off sid's as they are probably my favourite loach by far but personally I wouldn't hose sid's with either Clowns or striata, sid's are not vicious but very inquisitive and almost like that little gang of bullies that go around harassing other kids just for the she...

Nice lookin little fellas there! I am really still deciding what I want to add to my 240 along with clowns and striata, I was thinking either sids or dario... the dario would be a lot cheaper, half the price on franks website. But your sids looks so sharp...

Hello and welcome to the forums, OHfish! Nice to see another Ohioan  . However flourite is actually a pretty cheap plant substrate, I got mine in my 75g for $13 per 15 lb bag online. Even with additional shipping it was a decent amount cheaper than buying local when your looking at 7 bags or m...

Thanks for the suggestion EK, but I was referring to the Punitus denisonii . I might have to check em out though, never purchased any live fish online before till recently (but that was from another forum member). Maybe they will have some of the rarer fish I never get to see at the lfs, like the cr...

Chefkeith and Tristan were right on the money CONGRATULATIONS! Yay! http://www.forumsextreme.com/imgs1/Avatars_Funny_Dancing_Banana.gif chefkeith - it was actually ramshorn that I've seen do that as well  The reason I thought it was the water line instead of glass is if you look at the first ...

Tristan: As usual more questions and/or comments for my edification. (Do you wish by now that I would not have joined the Forum?) 1) Are these pumps submersible pumps and if so how do you deal with the unwanted byproducts due to corrosion? 2) Yes. Your pump delivery with vary with the head in the j...

For my 240g I decided on PFS. Its a bit coarser than any other sand I could get from the local stores (playsand, building sand, etc.) which I liked, less compaction problems, less dust and harder for it to be stirred up. And it was much more consistent grain size. But it was still inexpensive, only ...

Fertilizer Dosing I haven't had much time to work on anything lately, but here at work I've been crunching some numbers on the dosing routine. This is going to be a heavily planted tank, and even planted tanks heavily stocked with fish need some ferts. I plan on doing simple EI dosing method, and a...

There seems to be many who have done this (tropical temps I mean) so I really hope they will bo ok. They are just so darned expensive around here... one place is charging over $50 ...

I havent had cichlids other than a green severum before, and they seemed fairly passive in my tank. I had a pair and sometimes the pair would squabble but never saw any aggression with tankmates. Here is an old pic of mine.

Looks great so far (wow thats a lot of work using the cantilever design and beveling  ). Weather is a problem for me too... I havent been able to finish my stand end panels or start on my canopy since I end up doing most of my work in the driveway... my garage is rather full of stuff, and to ...

Thats my problem is gas since I drive a truck and my wifes SUV happens to be getting the same milleage right now as my truck (its usually not that bad). But if these fishies havent found a new home by next time I drive to East Canton I may consider. We go up there every so often to visit family, but...

Nice! I wish I'd have opted for the low iron glass. I way jumped the gun on ordering my big tank and wish I'd waited and had one made with starphire and setup the overflows a bit differently.
