humm, have you considered adding wood to the tank, if you don't boil it before adding, you will get tea-colored water which some people like and consider natural to some fish. The tannins will leech out of the wood and tints the water. Just an alternative idea to lighting changes. hth

hi hx, still wondering about this type of setup and if it would be feesible for me , so wonder what type of filter is best ? Dosen't look like one can use an HOB, what I am used to, and how did you cycle it? established filter media from another tank or fishless ? I can imagine even a tiny bit of am...

hi Shred , yikes ! hope you mean 'take back to the store ' when you say '' execute mollies'' :shock: not sure about the amonia prob, I am sure others can help better ,but will need more info ie tank size, fish stock , filter capacity etc. but perhaps you need to add another filter, not sure, but if ...

I always respect Diana's advice --she knows a lot about everything ,for sure, -- wonder if you have ever heard of using vinegar to test rocks? pour a little on and if fizz,not good for tank....if not fizz ,it's ok, and always boil . you're welcome and to let ya know, you can use zucchini, it stays better/longer in the water, rather than cukes, as they seem to get funky in the warm water quicker.
