Guys that fatty deposit thing is only used by the authors to separate S. atropurpureus from the other species discussed in the paper i.e. S. imperiorientis and S. percnopterygionus . Cobitis paludica
Specimens photographed at the Rio de la Vega, Tarifa, Spain. The other fish in the pictures is the endemic killifish Aphanius baeticus .
