Clown Loaches now 29 years of age.

Happy New Year to everyone who is still following. I am still here and so are my Clown Loaches. What has happened over the past year with my Clown Loaches? Not much but as usual they have benefitted from my constant careful attention. As always I have found some small ways of improving things. In 20...

Re: Tank sizes for group of loaches

I'd personally go for 6' x 18" x 18" which I have for my six Clown Loaches. I think your choices would have good swimming room and you can still reach the bottom for maintenance comfortably.

Re: Why do you like loaches?

As a Yorkshireman brought up to appreciate value for money, I see long life as another valuable characteristic. My current six Clown Loaches, which I purchased once I'd settled down to live in a permanent residence, are 28 years of age and they have given no trouble since arriving with Whitespot (Ic...

Re: New Member with Sewellia Lineolata

My lone fish was a lively and able competitor in this community of small gentle fish of benign temperament.

This was a very healthy tank that never suffered any diseases or other problems.

My Clown Loach aquarium has had no diseases in 27 years either.

Re: New Member with Sewellia Lineolata

I only have experience with what I believe were Hillstream Loach (Gastromyzon borneensis). I added three to a 4ft moderate flow tank with sand and self-collected driftwood covered with Java Fern and stocked with peaceful fish including Corydoras, Whiptail, Bulldog Plec, large shoal of African Glass ...

Re: Clown Loaches now 27 years old

I can address your first sentence. It is small for a male. It is significantly smaller than my other 3 males which measure 20cm / 8 inches.

I don't understand your second sentence. My apologies.

Re: Clown Loaches now 27 years old

It has only reached 6 inches in length because it is a genetically small individual. Small individuals exist within most species.

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?

I believe that the Asian Weatherfish Misgurnus anguillicaudatus can legally be kept in aquariums in the UK but a permit is required to keep them in ponds. They were found to be reproducing in a pond in Southern England and the population was subsequently eradicated by drainage and liming. This is th...

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?

We know that diseases or at least disease strains often originate in aquaculture where the selection pressures are vastly different. For example, it is advantageous for a disease to kill its fish host in aquaculture but not in the wild situation.
