Re: Panda loach success!

Sadly, just a shrimp. I'm not giving up looking for more fry just yet though.

Re: Panda loach success!

I have 4 adults. My eyes (and camera) aren't that great so I have trouble distinguishing the males and females based on Ott's description. Near as I can tell I have 3 females and 1 male, possibly 2 and 2. One female is very gravid at the moment. Rather than moving them to the 40, I'm working on clea...

Re: E.kalotaenia fry

I do recall reading a paper on the two species when I first got mine. IME, 1 out of 100 photos is about right. That's a very nice shot!

Re: Panda loach success!

I have only seen the one. Totally my fault as I don't have them in their own tank. I was planning on moving the group into their own 40 long river this summer to attempt breeding. Right now they're in a 20H. Tank parameters: Tap water ( treated with Prime) with pH of 7.2-7.4 I do a 50% weekly change...

Re: Ambastaia Sidthimunki (BOTIA)

Diana has some good suggestions! I would suggest adding more of the sids if you can. They really show off in a larger group. 12 is good.

Re: Help building a 20l river manifold

A 20 long is suitable for a manifold. Have you read this article? http://www.loaches.com/articles/river-tank-manifold-design It's really not that hard to build. I would probably still use two powerheads to get the true river movement. If I were building this I'd probably stagger the height of the pu...

Check out this thread:

It's a bit heavy on pics but there is some good info in there as well. Also, it was the Mar/Apr 2015 Amazonas issue with the article on breeding by Friedrich Bitter.

Welcome to the forum! Nice pictures. You've got quite an interesting mix going. I hope you can find some hillstreams, they're some of my favorites.

Re: Schistura pridii

That's funny, Jim. When I read your first comment I reached for my Amazonas and re-read it cover to cover. At any rate, they found someone who specializes in rare loaches with a mind toward conservation. So it all worked out.
Thanks,

Re: Schistura pridii

I got a great response from the vendor (The Wet Spot in Portland, Oregon) that really made my day. They agreed not to buy or sell any more of this species. They also said the following: "In the meantime, if you happen to know anyone interested in loach species conservation, please let me know – we’d...

Schistura pridii

One of my favorite vendors recently got some of these in stock. However, based on everything I can find online, including LOL and seriouslyfish, the wild population is incredibly limited in both range and number. Following a 2011 assessment, the IUCN redlist has them listed as endangered due to the ...
