Reminded me of a couple of neat ideas for wood joining and attaching this guy shows in his thread.

I see. So the sealer is really absorbed into the cement, so that it can't crack later?
Does it leave the surface matt or make it glossy?

Interesting project you've got there. And as I have noticed before, your documentaion of diy-works is superb. Thanks, it inspires us. A question: how long do you suppose it takes for the cement in your island to cure completely? Are you going to go through the vinegar-soaking to neutralise alkalinit...

I considered a false bottom when I was planning this stream. But I already had the tank and felt it would have taken too much off the depth, only 12''. I was also considering the false backwall. It does seem sort of easier to accomplish. The return channel is easier to clean and reach for other poss...

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Very pleasing to hear that someone is inspired. That's what I usually seek when I surf the net. Inspiration. Priceless, no? Tinman: At the moment I dont't prefilter. The funny side of open mattenfilters is that you can "vacuum" larger particles off the foam wh...

Very nice fish, indeed, Janne. Do they eat algae, then? Since I'm doing a project-sort of an intro of this tank, I'll put up a couple of pics of the rockwall I made to the tank. I made it out of polystyrene sheets. Glued together, cut and melt with a soldiering gun. Then covered with cement-based ma...

It would work like a charm, and do biological filtering while at it.

A false backwall or bottom in a tank to channel the water, a foamwall intake and a couple of Tunze Streams... Goodbye dandruff!

How often do you clean the filter sponge? Superb pictures btw. 8) Pretty thanks, Graeme! It depends so very much on the tank, and the bioload. Another thing that affects is how fine or coarse foam you use. Furthermore, tanks with mattenfilters are often supplied with some other filter type. I have ...

Oh wow! That is a gorgeous looking tank. It's dimensions are ideal for creating a one-way flow. The way you've adapted that Tunze pump is neat. It's made me realize that the same method could be used with Seio pumps. I have a 1500 GPH one in my Clown tank. Can you describe to us what a "mattenfilte...

Stream(ish) project

Hello, LOLers. I wanted to try and make a nicely flowing tank for mainly hillstreamers. The goal was- or still is - to make a low-energy type of a system with a good flow rate. Another goal is to make the tank suitable for small-scale breeding of hillstreams. What that means is mainly that the pump ...

Thank you, gentlemen. Martin, thanks also for your effort on distributing knowledge on loaches and their care. Great job. Yes, Keith, my idea was to give an idea of the possibilities of those stream-type pumps. To my mattenfilter construction the Koralia fits like a glove, since installed the way I ...

Hello, good people at Loaches Online. Been watching you for awhile. Nice forum, thank you. A couple of cents to the topic of good flow with low electricity/heat. Im running a "mattenfilter" in my 250 gal tank with a Koralia 4 pump. The setup is as follows: front: http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img8...
