Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Thanks Loachloach. That's very true about the pH and CO2. I can't think of why I didn't measure the TDS of each sample when I was checking the pH. I'm getting so forgetful lately.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

The results I'm getting for pH are nothing close to what the LFS got. Not sure why. I'm getting 7.2 to 7.3 in all my tanks. I've tested it electronically and with a regent based test kit. My tap water varies. Hot water lowered to room temp is 7.4 to 7.5 Cold water raised to room temp is 7.0 to 7.1 B...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

I just had my water tested at my LFS. Ammonia and Nitrite were 0. Nitrate was very low. The real shocker was my that my pH was 8. I'll be running some pH tests on all my tanks and water supply to find the source of the high pH. I think it's the hot water heater, but I'll test everything anyway. Need...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

While sleeping on it, I was thinking about what else could of been causing water quality problems and came up with a few answers. 1) For the large water changes, I was using sodium thiosulfate to dechlorinate the tap water. It's dechloranates, but doesn't detoxify ammonia. I forgot about that import...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

I had her about 8 years, since she was about a 1". She was a little over 5" long (nose to end of tail), but fairly thick. She was probably my smallest female.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

She didn't make it. She's already in the freezer. No others are showing the same symptoms. Not sure what to think. Hopefully its isolated. Earlier, I was thinking about moving the clowns that are in quarantine back over to the main tanks, but this death cancels that thought. I did do a quick inspect...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

She's almost lifeless. I moved her to bucket with water from Q-tank with just enough to cover her. Lots of aeration.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Well I'm not out of the woods yet. One clown loach is listless and breathing rapidly. Not sure what to do.

Re: Striped Kuhlis

They may eventually bond. The older kuhli's I have, both striped and solid, didn't bond much until I gave them some rock piles (with 3" to 6" smooth river rocks) to house in. They'll wiggle in and out of those rock piles like you wouldn't believe.

Re: What Is your craziest Loach Story

I have some kuhli loaches that stayed hidden or were trapped underneath an ornament for about a year. One of my clown loaches once jumped through an empty water bridge into an empty tank. She must of thought there was water in it. Thankfully, I was nearby when it happened and moved her back promptly.

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news

Loachloach- Thanks. Yes, it was horrible. Yes, the frail fins probably weren't caused by ich. There was an underlying problem that probably caused it, but I did see 2 ich spots near the tail on a different clown. That confirmed that ich was present. Later, after I started the salt treatment, I saw a...
