Have any of you ever used the 3M colorquartz in your tanks? I was thinking of trying some since the tahitian moon sand is way too expensive. Did you see my earlier posts on this? I linked to some good sources of info on it. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it if it were local and not too overpriced, but ...

They are Yasuhikotaka Sidthimunki ,aka dwarf loach, aka chain loach. My choice if you want a group who are active and out to be seen. I will add those to my list of Botia species above. Are they difficult to come upon? i.e. expensive. They are moderately difficult to find. They run about $12 ...

Yeah, I read through the entire thread. It got me more interested in the product. There are about 4 places semi-locally that sell it. I was just wondering if anyone here had experience since it's more likely that it would be used in a similar setup by people on this forum (plants + loaches). More in...

I'm putting it in my tank in another 2 weeks when i set it up. It seems to be a common substrate to use but I went with it mainly since it's clean for the price. Aquarium sand goes for $0.75-1.20/lb Pool sand $0.20-0.25/lb General purpose/play sand ~$0.10/lb You save some with the general purpose sa...

had a similar thing happen yesterday. Was doing a water change and noticed the tank water was really hot. Looks like my heater busted (why do they always seem to fail on?? Shouldnt' they be designed to be more likely to fail off?) and had the tank over 86F.. Lost an Otto and a guppy, so far. At leas...

looking at rainbowfish that native to Australia and the surrounding islands, which includes Melanotaenia praecox and related species. I'm not too excited about rainbow sharks. I've heard various things about them which seems to indicate they have widely varying personalities (with aggressive being o...

Ok great, so the only major trouble is feeding the bottom feeders and rainbows. Feeding after lights out should remedy that for the most part (?). Should the rainbows be kept in groups too? What male/female ratio works well? I've seen female heavy groups are best for breeding, but what about general...

Rainbowfish and Loaches?
With my new 75g setup, I was planning on putting some rainbowfish in with a couple loach species (striata and kubotai). Does anyone have experience with this combo? I've not been able to find any consistant information on the rainbowfish, some say they like hard water, some soft. Some say they're fi...
