Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.
As you quoited, the maculatus likes it on the soft side Where did I quote anything about maculatus? They can live in a range of 10-30 dGh. You call that soft side? I have no idea what type of hybrids my platies are. I've had mine for generations. What I said is mine have been thriving in the condit...

Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.
@ Chemistry, not only did I graduate in Chemistry, but I even kept fishes while a student. From the above, I can see you did not. Firstly, there is an equyilibrium H2O <-> H and HO. To be exactly, 1 out of every 10 to the power of 14 molecules fall apart @ 25 C. So a given quantity can not contain 1...

Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.
If you are offended, then please look into the mirror for the source. I did not write anything offending, but you took my words wrongly. If you want to weigh them carefully, start with reading carefully. I wrote platys might like it a little bit cooler. X maculatus, in the Original form, are to be k...

Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.
Perhaps a bit moralistic, but one might wonder whether we should take fish out of their natural habitat, put them into a tank, in circumstances which are not only not ideal, but even less ideal then possible. I think we should not. I think both a dog, and a fish are entitled to at least the best car...

Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.
Clown loaches prefer their waster to be warm, and soft Platys like it hard, and it may be a little bit cooler. As far as I kinow - I know next to nothing about rainbows, most rainbows also come from harder water So these two species would not ber my preferred combination. I'm thinking of a Sumatra t...

Re: Clown Loach Tank Size
I honestly think nearly no one has given them that benefit and the fish are actually still suffering in a 6x2x2 tanks when reached adult size. I am considering turning my 4 meters * 1 meter * 70 cm - that is slghtly more than 13 feet long - into a tank for clown loaches. In my view a 6*2*2 tank is ...

Re: Clown Loach Tank Size
Now who has tried this same tactic with clown loaches that remain fry for years so to speak? I think the size of the tank doesn't have much to do with growth rates. It's to do with overfeeding, overfiltering and massive water changes for the period of time they are in fast growing stage e.g "fry" s...

Re: Kuhli in small tank
I think beginners should start with a tank suitable for some 40 fishes. Sometimes 100 liters would suffice, but if anyone would have a tank with Clownbotia, the tank ought to be mch bigger. And if the fish are central American cichliuds, 500 l would not suffice. Still, don't keep too large groups of...

Re: What about Botia almorhae and striata in the same tank ?
Why not increase the group of B striata?
B almorhae will behave more or less similar, and therefore your tank will become a bit messy - groups of nit similar fish are not really nice to watch

Re: Couple Kuhli loach questions
@ temperature, please realize that the equator runs over Sumatra, and kuhli loaches are fish for easily flowing water. That is, het lowland rivers. Equator & sea level = around 30 C. 30 C ~ 84 F. Many tropical fishes come from higher uphill, and therefore require less heat. With regard to the open t...

Re: some loaches from Yunnan and please ID some of them
I've had a fish rather similar to the last picture sold as Acantocobitis botia
I'm not saying your fish is the same, but it might help
The fish on the earlier pictures seamed to be rather thin - is it a new import?

Re: Long way home - how to carry loaches?
. I had the car heater turned up warmer than I liked, lol, but the fish were ok. The big bucket also allowed room for slowly acclimating the fish to their new water. When transporting fish I always have the car heater on an uncomfortable position. With regard to the water, a bucket does not allow t...

Clown loaches come from Borneo and Sumatra. If you look into the barbs from there, the temperature will almost certainly match

Dear all I’m considering a Sumatra tank, build around 3 species: Chromobotia macacanthus approximately 15 Balantiocheilos melanopterus, approximately 10 Rasbora kalochroma approximately 25 This tank is currently in use for Central American cichlids, which will all have to move. That will require som...
