Re: Non-Lethal Skinny Disease? Dojo Loach Issues

For the antibiotic part, do you think it would be safe to mix furan-2 and kanamycin in the food?

Re: Is my tank cycled?

I find that if you bring the gravel and decorations to a new tank, the good bacteria bounces back after a day or so. There's usually a day or so where you have slightly cloudy water, which I believe is a sign that your good bacteria is in bloom. Then I think it goes clear again when levels are good....

Re: What species is this Kuhli?

I think there is great variation within fish species, which is why we so often post here asking what species a fish is. It's likely that it's a Pangio kuhli with a different pattern. Here's one kuhli I had that started with a strange pattern then went completely brown on me: http://i.imgur.com/3rm86...

Non-Lethal Skinny Disease? Dojo Loach Issues

http://i.imgur.com/xOuTAvMl.jpg I've had this dojo loach for about a year to 18months. I had him in quarantine for 6 months because all his tankmates at the store died within 48 hours. Since I didn't know much about fish medicine, I just assumed that, if he was alive after 6 months in quarantine, h...

They are both still babies yet. Just under 2 inches?

Yet Another B&W Loach Identification

So I got these at the LFS as kubotai. Now that they're getting older, I'm starting to wonder... http://i.imgur.com/I8p3Z8xl.jpg?1 I'm showing both sides of this one, since he seems to look different on either side. It doesn't show as much in the photo, but he is much yellower than the other B&W. htt...

Powerless hillstreams

I'm a part of that power outage in Ohio, they say it could take 5-7 days to get it back. I can do water changes everyday to keep the rest of the fish alive, but I'm worried about the still water and the hillstreams. Will they be okay?

Re: Columnaris/Saddleback

Let it be known that I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but when my fish were sick a couple of weeks ago (with something else), this website helped out a lot.

Re: GSE as a plant disinfectant?

Aren't you worried that your fish might get a disease from wherever the plants were bought?

GSE as a plant disinfectant?

Has anyone ever used Grapefruit Seed Extract to disinfect live aquarium plants? Those of us in the parrot community have been using it to disinfect toys and cages for years, and I have found a couple places on the internet where it is used as an algacide in tanks (with minimal toxicity to the fish, ...

Re: Dropsy AND Septicemia- and now bloody barbels

Ok, so I've been practically living in the world of fish medicine for the past few weeks, and I've come to realize the importance of aquatic forums as a mean of treating fish. Unfortunately, most of these encounters end badly or people don't update and say exactly what they did when things work. I p...

Dropsy AND Septicemia- and now bloody barbels

Ok. Things havent been going well for me fish wise. I have a 55 gallon tank. 3 small dojos (3 ish inches), 8 sewellia lineolata, 2 adolescent yo yos, 2 young Botia kubotai. As of right now, nitrates are low (I haven't vacuumed in 6 days due to maracyn 2 treatment which will be vacuumed out when I ge...

What do most people use then for filtration in larger tanks? We plan to upgrade to 90 gallons or larger at some point.

Tell me about Fluval Canisters- or Canisters in general

I'm thinking about getting a fluval canister filter tomorrow as they are on sale at my LFS. I have a 55 gallon loach tank I want to put it on with a very fine sand for substrate. I've never had a canister before, only the back hanging kind. What do you love about them? What do you hate about them? D...

Re: Possibly Sick Dojos

No, it wasn't Petco, it was Aquarium Adventures. I'd be surprised if they salt their fish...like I said, I've gotten several loaches from them over the years, and they have always been healthy and lively. I actually just got some beautiful sewellia from them a few weeks ago and they are thriving. Ho...
