Re: New loach lover. Some pics and videos

A friend of mine covers PVC with gravel and it looks great. I do not know what she used to make it stick, because I know sometimes PVC doesn't adhere well. I am sure people on here know what to use. Make sure evrything you use is non toxic to fish. What you want is active fish who do not act frantic...

Re: Bristlenose Catfish Fry Question

Ha! Caught the little buggers eating the Hikari wafer last night. :) I also added about 7 amazing blue Pearl shrimp. They are blue! Really, really blue and there are a few berried females. The shrimp are cleaning up after the BN, so now I am not too worried. I also acquired an adult male blue eyed a...

Re: Newbie wanting advice

I would definitely get a group of Otos and a group of Sids. At least 4-6 of each. Otos are communal and do better in larger groups. Make sure you acclimate them slowly. Otos live forever if they survive the first 3 weeks of introduction. I usually acclimate them over a period of hours. There are dif...

Re: New loach lover. Some pics and videos

Definitely quarantine. It is good to have a second tank running anyways, so you have a seeded filter in case ytou lose your bacteria through antibiotics or an accident. You could keep the platies in the Q tank. :) What you need is a peacefully schooling fish that swims around, but isn't twitchy. :) ...

Re: New loach lover. Some pics and videos

The tank is really beautiful. I would add a few more caves, so the loaches will feel like they can duck in whenever they want to. How many loaches do you have? I think the platies are a little too low key to be dithers, but maybe if the boys chase the girls, you will get some movement. You just don'...

Re: New loach lover. Some pics and videos

That is one chunky clown. :) I would recommend getting some dither fish. I didn't see any in your tank. They are the "all clear fish" for the clowns. I used giant danios and rainbows in my larger tanks. Rasboras, ghost catfish in my smaller tanks. Any fish swimming in the middle of the tank that let...

Re: Newbie wanting advice

Hi Laura, I think Diana meant the Oto cats instead of the BN, but I don't want to speak for her. To post pictures you upload your pictures to a host like flickr or photobucket. Then you copy and paste the Img link. The entire link from img to img. Then do preview to check if it worked. Welcome to th...

Re: New loach lover. Some pics and videos

Thanks for sharing more pictures of that beautiful tank, and healthy happy fish. I agree I don't mind the tannins, but the messy tank bottom -- blah!

Your tank is beautiful and I know the fish like to browse and sleep in the Almond leaves.

Re: Newbie wanting advice

WHat is the footprint across the floor? I think if you wanted to keep loaches in a tall tanks, Kuhlies or Sids would be your best choice. I think either would work, but I think Kuhlies would be better. I think a BN would be fine. The Sids my also shread your plants. The Kuhlies will hide in them. Do...

Re: Annual Fish Auction in Tampa, FLorida 11.10.12

PS We also had a local breeder (Patrick Daily of Amazon Exotics) donate two Zebra Plecos to us for auction. I can now say that I have personally touched a Sebra pleco and I have seen a few hundred. He also toured us around his fish house and showed us amazing fish like 4' arowana, long fin full-grow...

Re: Annual Fish Auction in Tampa, FLorida 11.10.12

This year I really had a great time at the auction. I picked up a small, lovely L333 http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=1024 I also got an amazing whiptail, but I have no idea what it is. It has a high dornal and short nose like a royal farlowela and two black stripes over h...

Re: Some Shrimps Photos to Share

Since cuttlefish bones is usually sold for birds to eat, they usually don't have anything bad added. I use them in my tanks along with calcium tablets. I have no problems with crawdads, cherries, amanos and Bamboos, but fancy shrimp don't make it longer than 2 months. That is a bummer. I love invert...
